[00:00] SPEAKER_02: It's Toronto's podcast on the Canada's podcast network.
[00:06] SPEAKER_02: Hi, I'm Andrew Sesson, your Toronto's host for Canada's podcast.
[00:11] SPEAKER_02: I'm here with Sveta Franky.
[00:13] SPEAKER_02: She is an entrepreneur, she's the CEO and founder of Teachin' Do.
[00:19] SPEAKER_02: Sveta, welcome.
[00:21] SPEAKER_02: Thank you very much for inviting me, Andrea.
[00:23] SPEAKER_02: We're very excited to have you today and especially at the time like this, where it's
[00:28] SPEAKER_02: unfortunate, we're doing this interview in the midst of COVID-19 global pandemic, which
[00:35] SPEAKER_02: has affected a lot of businesses.
[00:38] SPEAKER_02: It's affected a lot of employees as well.
[00:41] SPEAKER_02: A lot of people are losing their jobs, we'll be looking for second career, new jobs.
[00:47] SPEAKER_02: So please, I would love to hear and I'm sure our viewers and listeners would love to hear
[00:52] SPEAKER_02: about who you are and what you do and how you got started.
[00:57] SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
[00:58] SPEAKER_00: So, my name is Sveta Ragby and I am a CEO and founder of Teachin' Do and I work as a career consultant
[01:06] SPEAKER_00: through my company.
[01:08] SPEAKER_00: So I used to be in hiring world, corporate world for more than 15 years.
[01:13] SPEAKER_00: But out of that, I was managing the team for almost 12 years and I guess what, I got
[01:20] SPEAKER_00: laid off after 12 years.
[01:22] SPEAKER_00: That's when it hit me and I completely get you whoever is watching right now and if
[01:27] SPEAKER_00: you just happen to have that moment off, okay, why me?
[01:31] SPEAKER_00: I was there and it was really tough for me as a job seeker.
[01:35] SPEAKER_00: Here I was from recruiting world.
[01:38] SPEAKER_00: I used to be in TV people, I used to scan resumes and everything.
[01:41] SPEAKER_00: Now the tables were turned towards me and it was really hard.
[01:44] SPEAKER_00: At first, I thought, you know what, I will get the job tomorrow.
[01:47] SPEAKER_00: They need me more than I need them.
[01:49] SPEAKER_00: But did that happen?
[01:50] SPEAKER_00: Absolutely not.
[01:51] SPEAKER_00: That's when I got the taste of it.
[01:53] SPEAKER_00: My ego were really, really high and when I became a job seeker, my self confidence and
[01:59] SPEAKER_00: self esteem became very, very low.
[02:02] SPEAKER_00: And I started strategizing it.
[02:03] SPEAKER_00: Why is it not working for me?
[02:05] SPEAKER_00: So I put the plan together during the job search and it all worked out after I started
[02:10] SPEAKER_00: investing in myself.
[02:12] SPEAKER_00: I hired coach and I hired consultant and I figured it out.
[02:16] SPEAKER_00: Imagine, I was in that world.
[02:18] SPEAKER_00: I had no problem with networking, nothing like that.
[02:21] SPEAKER_00: And plus I moved from Toronto to Southbury, the smaller city where I had to start from scratch.
[02:26] SPEAKER_00: It was very hard for me, but I eventually got the job.
[02:29] SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't say it was a dream role, but I was actually targeting the title, right?
[02:33] SPEAKER_00: And that's all we do.
[02:35] SPEAKER_00: And then I figured, you know what, it's not for me.
[02:38] SPEAKER_00: Corporate world's not for me at all.
[02:40] SPEAKER_00: And then I quit, I resigned and I went back to the teaching due.
[02:44] SPEAKER_00: Teaching due was found to five years ago.
[02:46] SPEAKER_00: But I was just, you know, putting it as a side hustle.
[02:50] SPEAKER_00: I was not charging people.
[02:52] SPEAKER_00: I was just making an impact by helping them out, making a resume, interviews, what not
[02:56] SPEAKER_00: within the community, especially the immigrant community.
[02:59] SPEAKER_00: But then I saw it as it's a huge, huge deal for people to get a job out here.
[03:05] SPEAKER_00: So then I started, okay, screw all of this.
[03:08] SPEAKER_00: I'm going to go and make an impact to the world.
[03:10] SPEAKER_00: I'm done making billions for a corporate company.
[03:14] SPEAKER_00: And I just gave everything I had, good roles and everything.
[03:17] SPEAKER_00: And I started teaching due full time.
[03:20] SPEAKER_02: So full time and you've been doing it full time ever since, for how many years now?
[03:27] SPEAKER_00: Seven years?
[03:28] SPEAKER_00: Full time.
[03:29] SPEAKER_00: It's been potentially from last year only.
[03:31] SPEAKER_00: So I was doing a part time.
[03:33] SPEAKER_00: It was a side hustle for me.
[03:34] SPEAKER_00: So I literally gave up everything last year.
[03:37] SPEAKER_02: You, you come and we've seen this a lot with some of the entrepreneurs we interviewed,
[03:43] SPEAKER_02: where they come from a corporate world and they start their businesses as a side hustle.
[03:51] SPEAKER_02: And I actually did an article on this recently where they started as a side hustle.
[03:56] SPEAKER_02: And then it turns into a full time gig.
[03:59] SPEAKER_02: So do you suggest for any aspiring entrepreneurs to do that or based on your experience?
[04:06] SPEAKER_02: Would you advise them to go in it full time right away?
[04:11] SPEAKER_00: I would absolutely suggest anyone who wants to go in that world of entrepreneurship,
[04:17] SPEAKER_00: just give it a try, test it out, if there's a market.
[04:20] SPEAKER_00: And if you feel passionate about it, just because you see something out there that does not mean
[04:24] SPEAKER_00: that you're going to love it.
[04:26] SPEAKER_00: I loved what I did and I wanted to make an impact, right?
[04:29] SPEAKER_00: Help people out.
[04:29] SPEAKER_00: And I felt it as, okay, well, this is a time for me.
[04:32] SPEAKER_00: I'm done impacting all those people in a corporate world.
[04:35] SPEAKER_00: I'd rather do it from my own company.
[04:38] SPEAKER_00: So I tested it out.
[04:39] SPEAKER_00: It worked for me and I had knowledge as well.
[04:42] SPEAKER_00: I had those knowledge from the world.
[04:44] SPEAKER_02: Wonderful.
[04:46] SPEAKER_02: So would you say that you're wired differently as an entrepreneur?
[04:51] SPEAKER_02: We hear often this being discussed,
[04:56] SPEAKER_02: are you born to be an entrepreneur?
[04:58] SPEAKER_02: Is this something you're born with?
[05:00] SPEAKER_02: Or do you think you is this something that you sort of became?
[05:04] SPEAKER_00: I honestly, I am one of those entrepreneurs who just accidentally became an entrepreneur, right?
[05:10] SPEAKER_00: So I think love, and I would be an entrepreneur by accident.
[05:13] SPEAKER_00: Yes, I was.
[05:15] SPEAKER_00: Everyone pretty much saw me as, okay, you need to do business because you're so committed to
[05:19] SPEAKER_00: like helping people out and you're so passionate about it in the community,
[05:24] SPEAKER_00: you know, whether it's fundraising or doing the charity work, whatever it is,
[05:27] SPEAKER_00: I was very involved on it.
[05:28] SPEAKER_00: And I just loved doing that.
[05:31] SPEAKER_00: And people saw me as an entrepreneur.
[05:33] SPEAKER_00: But I never believed it.
[05:34] SPEAKER_00: I said, you know what?
[05:35] SPEAKER_00: This is something I love.
[05:36] SPEAKER_00: I would love to do that one day, right?
[05:39] SPEAKER_00: But I had no idea I'd be doing a career coaching.
[05:42] SPEAKER_00: So when I became a job seeker, that's when I decided this is it.
[05:45] SPEAKER_00: If I had a problem, you know,
[05:48] SPEAKER_00: can imagine people who are lost, I was lost.
[05:51] SPEAKER_00: And I thought, this is, I didn't need to know,
[05:54] SPEAKER_00: like, you know, how, like, you know, you go from having no clue
[05:57] SPEAKER_00: to having like all those plans and strategies.
[06:00] SPEAKER_00: So I'm not going to keep it to myself.
[06:02] SPEAKER_00: I'm going to share it.
[06:03] SPEAKER_00: And that's how I started sharing.
[06:05] SPEAKER_00: And then that's how I started.
[06:06] SPEAKER_00: Okay, this is it.
[06:07] SPEAKER_00: I'm going to go back.
[06:07] SPEAKER_00: So accidentally, I think blessing and disguise for me was being laid off.
[06:13] SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
[06:14] SPEAKER_00: First, you know, it was, it was kind of like, oh my God, why me?
[06:17] SPEAKER_00: Then I started volunteering.
[06:19] SPEAKER_00: I traveled, I backed packed and everything.
[06:21] SPEAKER_00: And that gave me the reason of what am I doing in a corporate world?
[06:25] SPEAKER_00: I can do something better than this.
[06:27] SPEAKER_00: And that's what that's how I started and strategized and tested the water out there.
[06:32] SPEAKER_02: So I think a lot of people that are in the situation today,
[06:36] SPEAKER_02: especially with COVID-19 effects that we're seeing and being laid off,
[06:41] SPEAKER_02: who are thinking about becoming an entrepreneur or starting their own business.
[06:48] SPEAKER_02: Do you think this is the right time?
[06:49] SPEAKER_02: Is there a right time?
[06:50] SPEAKER_02: And is there any sort of advice that you could give them if they're not job seekers?
[06:56] SPEAKER_02: And this is specifically for entrepreneurs.
[06:59] SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
[06:59] SPEAKER_00: So I believe in if you have a passion, anyone out there,
[07:04] SPEAKER_00: if you have a passion of helping people out and making an impact to others,
[07:09] SPEAKER_00: that's what I believe entrepreneurship should be.
[07:12] SPEAKER_00: And everyone should be looking it out as helping.
[07:15] SPEAKER_00: Plus on the side, you know, paying your bills is well at the same time, right?
[07:19] SPEAKER_00: You go to survive as well.
[07:20] SPEAKER_00: So if you believe in yourself and you know that you can make an impact,
[07:24] SPEAKER_00: I don't think that there should be any time.
[07:26] SPEAKER_00: Possessions, depression doesn't really matter.
[07:29] SPEAKER_00: As a matter of fact, a lot of companies like Uber and WhatsApp and other companies
[07:32] SPEAKER_00: actually were launched during the recession time and look where they are.
[07:37] SPEAKER_00: Because they came up with innovative ideas, right?
[07:41] SPEAKER_00: That no one saw, like, you know, everyone pretty much thought that,
[07:44] SPEAKER_00: oh, Uber, like, who's going to do deal with this and WhatsApp?
[07:46] SPEAKER_00: Everyone is on that right now, right?
[07:48] SPEAKER_00: So, it's very true.
[07:49] SPEAKER_02: It's very true what you're saying.
[07:50] SPEAKER_02: Because a lot of companies, successful ones,
[07:52] SPEAKER_02: will find ways to innovate, especially at hard times like this.
[07:56] SPEAKER_02: They'll find ways to innovate and win the market over.
[07:59] SPEAKER_02: That's a very good point.
[08:01] SPEAKER_00: And especially on this, you know, on, you know,
[08:03] SPEAKER_00: I know you have university yourself as well, right?
[08:06] SPEAKER_00: And you target, like, you know, pretty much specialized area.
[08:09] SPEAKER_00: And I think this is the time they need us, you know,
[08:12] SPEAKER_00: anything related with the coaching, you know,
[08:14] SPEAKER_00: this is exactly the time the people need us.
[08:17] SPEAKER_00: And we need to make an impact to their life, their life.
[08:20] SPEAKER_00: And that's what I think I believe in.
[08:22] SPEAKER_00: And anyone who's looking for,
[08:24] SPEAKER_00: well, this is not for me.
[08:27] SPEAKER_00: This is not the right time.
[08:29] SPEAKER_00: And I really want them to think about it and see,
[08:32] SPEAKER_00: you know what, probably this is the right time.
[08:33] SPEAKER_00: They need you more than ever.
[08:35] SPEAKER_02: I agree.
[08:36] SPEAKER_02: And I've seen you, you have such a large network
[08:40] SPEAKER_02: on social media.
[08:42] SPEAKER_02: And that's how we originally connected as well,
[08:45] SPEAKER_02: is because I saw the impact you're making.
[08:48] SPEAKER_02: And you have something like 40,000 followers on LinkedIn.
[08:53] SPEAKER_02: And for those that are on LinkedIn,
[08:56] SPEAKER_02: they know how hard it is to win the market over
[09:02] SPEAKER_02: because you're dealing with professionals,
[09:04] SPEAKER_02: educated people.
[09:05] SPEAKER_02: So it is very hard to win that market over
[09:10] SPEAKER_02: and have the followers.
[09:12] SPEAKER_02: And especially 40,000 followers.
[09:15] SPEAKER_02: I mean, Swayda, what are you doing?
[09:18] SPEAKER_02: What's your secret?
[09:19] SPEAKER_02: Advice for entrepreneurs out there
[09:22] SPEAKER_02: in terms of how have you engaged with your audience?
[09:29] SPEAKER_00: You know, for a lot of those who do not know,
[09:31] SPEAKER_00: like, you know, my teacher and you
[09:32] SPEAKER_00: offer personal branding courses,
[09:34] SPEAKER_00: well, that's exactly what I did when I was a job seeker.
[09:37] SPEAKER_00: When I wanted to go out there and get my name out there,
[09:40] SPEAKER_00: I had a strategy, right?
[09:42] SPEAKER_00: So first strategies was planting it and defining your niche,
[09:46] SPEAKER_00: like whether you're a job seeker or a business.
[09:48] SPEAKER_00: So when I was a job seeker, it worked for me.
[09:51] SPEAKER_00: I built my personal brand.
[09:53] SPEAKER_00: I was not actually in LinkedIn.
[09:54] SPEAKER_00: I was a worker.
[09:55] SPEAKER_00: I would not engage, right?
[09:56] SPEAKER_00: But I still have some kind of strategy.
[09:58] SPEAKER_00: So people who knew me knew me as, you know what?
[10:00] SPEAKER_00: She does a lot of charity work.
[10:02] SPEAKER_00: She's heavily involved in community.
[10:04] SPEAKER_00: And that was my impression within the community,
[10:06] SPEAKER_00: within LinkedIn as well.
[10:07] SPEAKER_00: I used to share those.
[10:08] SPEAKER_00: And that was part of my strategies
[10:09] SPEAKER_00: because I wanted to go and commit myself in a community.
[10:13] SPEAKER_00: And I wanted people to know me as,
[10:15] SPEAKER_00: you know what, she loves to give back, right?
[10:17] SPEAKER_00: And then I would boast about it.
[10:19] SPEAKER_00: Why not?
[10:19] SPEAKER_00: I would market myself first.
[10:20] SPEAKER_00: I was hesitant.
[10:21] SPEAKER_00: But later on, because I decided I wanted to join the,
[10:23] SPEAKER_00: you know, the company, non-profit company.
[10:26] SPEAKER_00: I started strategizing it as a job seeker.
[10:29] SPEAKER_00: And as an entrepreneur, when I decided,
[10:31] SPEAKER_00: I'm going to go full on with this.
[10:33] SPEAKER_00: And I had a strategy.
[10:35] SPEAKER_00: And within nine months, I came from 500 to now almost 43,000 follower.
[10:41] SPEAKER_00: And it was, I didn't see coming,
[10:43] SPEAKER_00: but I had a plan in place.
[10:44] SPEAKER_00: At Agenda, it didn't happen.
[10:47] SPEAKER_00: It did not happen accidentally.
[10:49] SPEAKER_00: I strategized all of it.
[10:51] SPEAKER_02: That is absolutely amazing.
[10:55] SPEAKER_02: And I've seen a lot of entrepreneurs
[10:56] SPEAKER_02: who don't utilize social media at all,
[11:01] SPEAKER_02: unfortunately, or don't give it the importance
[11:03] SPEAKER_02: that it should have.
[11:05] SPEAKER_02: They're not engaging with their customers.
[11:07] SPEAKER_02: They're not engaging with their clients.
[11:09] SPEAKER_02: They're not being active, you know.
[11:11] SPEAKER_02: They may have a post that was posted nine months ago.
[11:15] SPEAKER_02: But from what I've seen with you,
[11:17] SPEAKER_02: and this is good advice for any entrepreneur out there,
[11:20] SPEAKER_02: is you're very engaged with your audience.
[11:23] SPEAKER_02: So you're responsive, you're very approachable.
[11:27] SPEAKER_02: If, you know, if there's a comment or a question,
[11:30] SPEAKER_02: you respond.
[11:31] SPEAKER_02: And I think that's really what captivates your audience
[11:34] SPEAKER_02: and continues the growth of your followers.
[11:39] SPEAKER_02: Because nobody wants to follow somebody that doesn't post
[11:42] SPEAKER_02: or doesn't engage.
[11:44] SPEAKER_00: And you know what?
[11:45] SPEAKER_00: And I think it's not only about content.
[11:47] SPEAKER_00: Like I write contents pretty much every day,
[11:50] SPEAKER_00: every day, and there's a specific message in my content.
[11:53] SPEAKER_00: I have a niche.
[11:54] SPEAKER_00: It's targeted to the special like, you know, audience.
[11:57] SPEAKER_00: And I do target leadership team as well.
[12:00] SPEAKER_00: I vent out sometimes.
[12:02] SPEAKER_00: And it's all about coming from the corporate world.
[12:04] Speaker UNKNOWN:
[12:05] SPEAKER_00: And I engage.
[12:07] SPEAKER_00: And there's always about like, you know,
[12:09] SPEAKER_00: I do a lot of free contents, which I usually would charge for.
[12:13] SPEAKER_00: So I believe in gifts so much that people would come back to you
[12:18] SPEAKER_00: thinking that, you know what, if she is giving this free stuff away,
[12:22] SPEAKER_00: can you imagine when I pay her like, what is she capable of?
[12:25] SPEAKER_00: That's exactly what it is.
[12:27] SPEAKER_00: I give.
[12:28] SPEAKER_00: Yes, I'm not going to be a link to make money because of content writing.
[12:33] SPEAKER_00: But I wanted to give back because I believe in karma.
[12:36] SPEAKER_00: The more I give, the more I get it.
[12:39] SPEAKER_02: I love it.
[12:39] SPEAKER_02: I hear that from quite often from a lot of entrepreneurs
[12:44] SPEAKER_02: is you give and you receive more.
[12:47] SPEAKER_02: Because we're doing the centrivia at the times like this,
[12:51] SPEAKER_02: which have been really tough for a lot of Canadians out there,
[12:56] SPEAKER_02: how, what have you seen in terms of effect on your particular business
[13:03] SPEAKER_02: as an entrepreneur?
[13:05] SPEAKER_00: I first, honestly, I thought I was thinking, you know,
[13:10] SPEAKER_00: did I, am I doing the right thing by going online asking people,
[13:14] SPEAKER_00: do you need help?
[13:15] SPEAKER_00: Like I'm here for you.
[13:16] SPEAKER_00: You didn't want to be looking like you're just here for money,
[13:20] SPEAKER_00: which I'm not, right?
[13:21] SPEAKER_00: And I wanted to impact to the people's life.
[13:24] SPEAKER_00: And I think I'm totally blessed because it's just a message
[13:28] SPEAKER_00: how you put it through.
[13:30] SPEAKER_00: So if you like, I've started pretty much promoting
[13:34] SPEAKER_00: teaching, recently only, if you need something, contact me or DM me,
[13:39] SPEAKER_00: whatever it is, right?
[13:40] SPEAKER_00: There's the strategy that I put it in place.
[13:43] SPEAKER_00: And I think it's even better right now.
[13:45] SPEAKER_00: To be honest, I am super busy.
[13:49] SPEAKER_00: People are contacting me from worlds.
[13:51] SPEAKER_00: And as a matter of fact, I teach people,
[13:54] SPEAKER_00: like, who are going to be landing in Canada soon?
[13:58] SPEAKER_00: They contact me.
[13:59] SPEAKER_00: I'm booked from them.
[14:00] SPEAKER_00: So it's all part of giving back.
[14:03] SPEAKER_00: Again, and they see me what I'm doing.
[14:07] SPEAKER_00: And I think I am okay right now.
[14:09] SPEAKER_00: Luckily, I'm blessed.
[14:11] SPEAKER_00: What they industry I am in right now, coaching industry right now.
[14:14] SPEAKER_00: But I do understand there are a lot of small businesses out there.
[14:17] SPEAKER_00: They are kind of like having challenges.
[14:21] SPEAKER_00: And again, I'm pretty sure there's a strategy.
[14:24] SPEAKER_00: How you do it?
[14:24] SPEAKER_00: And I think the point right now is just because it's slow.
[14:29] SPEAKER_00: That doesn't mean that you have to slow down.
[14:30] SPEAKER_00: You have to have a way to let people know you're there for them.
[14:35] SPEAKER_00: And that's exactly what I do.
[14:36] SPEAKER_00: I do free work.
[14:37] SPEAKER_00: I mean, I do free sessions.
[14:39] SPEAKER_00: And my leads, people who want to come to me,
[14:42] SPEAKER_00: they see me and they come to me.
[14:44] SPEAKER_00: I've never gone across and like, promoted in a cold manner.
[14:49] SPEAKER_00: It's always about human touch with me.
[14:51] SPEAKER_00: And giving away the free stuff.
[14:53] SPEAKER_00: And that's where I actually get the lead from.
[14:55] SPEAKER_00: I don't use a sign up on the website as well.
[14:58] SPEAKER_00: And I know a lot of people what they do is sign up for my checklist or do this.
[15:03] SPEAKER_00: You know, to capture emails.
[15:04] SPEAKER_00: And I have not done that until this day.
[15:06] SPEAKER_00: And I still get the lead.
[15:07] SPEAKER_00: And you know, I have a strategy in place.
[15:10] SPEAKER_02: It's very good.
[15:11] SPEAKER_02: And you mentioned a really important point here that there was a lot of entrepreneurs
[15:17] SPEAKER_02: that were wondering, should they stop selling at this point?
[15:21] SPEAKER_02: Does it seem insensitive if you're still trying to sell your services?
[15:26] SPEAKER_02: And you know, there's been sort of two schools about
[15:29] SPEAKER_02: and there's some people are saying, you know, well, it's insensitive to sell at the times like this.
[15:34] SPEAKER_02: When, you know, people are losing their jobs.
[15:37] SPEAKER_02: But there's also a second school that's saying, you know, well,
[15:40] SPEAKER_02: you still have to sell your services.
[15:42] SPEAKER_02: You still have a business to run.
[15:44] SPEAKER_02: And it's how you approach it.
[15:46] SPEAKER_02: So business is usual.
[15:47] SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
[15:48] SPEAKER_02: Would you say it's business is usual?
[15:51] SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
[15:52] SPEAKER_00: And you know, as it's a and again, it's going to the brand.
[15:54] SPEAKER_00: Personal brand and putting your, you know, if you are going out there in marketing
[15:58] SPEAKER_00: worlds and social media, wherever you are, whether you're LinkedIn or Facebook or Twitter,
[16:02] SPEAKER_00: whatever it is, Instagram, right?
[16:05] SPEAKER_00: You don't want to be sounding cold.
[16:07] SPEAKER_00: You still have to have off.
[16:08] SPEAKER_00: You know, who are you to judge people that they don't need you?
[16:11] SPEAKER_00: Maybe there's someone who needs to service so badly that people didn't know about you, right?
[16:15] SPEAKER_00: It's just about, I think, marketing plan and the strategy that they put it together.
[16:20] SPEAKER_00: I've never got to go out there and then tell people, hey, you're an enemy.
[16:23] SPEAKER_00: Come to me.
[16:24] SPEAKER_00: There's a price.
[16:25] SPEAKER_00: This is the, you know what I mean?
[16:26] SPEAKER_00: So like, you know, it's, if people need me, when they see me the content,
[16:29] SPEAKER_00: more money to judge that they don't have a money, right?
[16:31] SPEAKER_00: It's not if my business, if people have money to pay me or not, right?
[16:35] SPEAKER_00: Am I a business that will let the people know I'm here for you?
[16:38] SPEAKER_00: To make an impact, I can get you from here to here and let the people decide if I'm right for them.
[16:42] SPEAKER_00: I might not be right for everyone, but I might be right for someone out there.
[16:46] SPEAKER_00: And why stop marketing yourself?
[16:48] SPEAKER_02: That's great.
[16:50] SPEAKER_02: Okay.
[16:50] SPEAKER_02: So, Swayda, where do you see yourself?
[16:52] SPEAKER_02: In your business, and let's say five years, if we survive the COVID-19 and the effects,
[16:58] SPEAKER_02: where do you see yourself in your business?
[17:02] SPEAKER_00: I see Multilat and National.
[17:03] SPEAKER_00: I'm already launching like, you know, GoBooE.
[17:05] SPEAKER_00: I have Google audience already through LinkedIn, and people approach me from different
[17:10] SPEAKER_00: parts of the world, especially who are landing in Canada in advance, right?
[17:14] SPEAKER_00: But I do see myself going out there and offering online courses to the colleges,
[17:19] SPEAKER_00: universities, universities.
[17:20] SPEAKER_00: That's my plan.
[17:22] SPEAKER_00: And believe it or not, right now, college and university, they do not have a career coaching plan,
[17:26] SPEAKER_00: right? And that's the toughest part for student-out there.
[17:29] SPEAKER_00: I do work with a lot of student-freshers and everything, but there's no plan in place.
[17:33] SPEAKER_00: When the budget actually is cut, career coaching is impacted.
[17:37] SPEAKER_00: That's the first one to go in college, is from what I've seen.
[17:40] SPEAKER_00: It research proves it, right?
[17:41] SPEAKER_00: Because they see that as an extra cut.
[17:43] SPEAKER_00: And that's where people are not getting a job, because college,
[17:47] SPEAKER_00: they are teaching text books.
[17:50] SPEAKER_00: They're not teaching anything, what after that?
[17:53] SPEAKER_00: How do you get the job?
[17:54] SPEAKER_00: How do you build your personal brand?
[17:56] SPEAKER_00: I remember myself going to the college and learning about personal brand and marketing,
[18:00] SPEAKER_00: but did I know what the personal branding was?
[18:02] SPEAKER_00: Absolutely not.
[18:03] SPEAKER_00: I only knew it when I became a job-seeker and I became a consultant.
[18:06] SPEAKER_00: I know that that has a huge impact.
[18:08] SPEAKER_00: No hotel student colleges.
[18:10] SPEAKER_00: So I'd like to see myself in going there and offering webinar session, whatever it is,
[18:16] SPEAKER_00: in colleges and universities around the world.
[18:19] SPEAKER_02: It's all right.
[18:19] SPEAKER_02: And the whole purpose of education is to educate people to become employable, basically.
[18:29] SPEAKER_02: That's the end of your ultimate goal.
[18:31] SPEAKER_02: But if you don't have the assistance front that's seen
[18:36] SPEAKER_02: school being college or university to become employable,
[18:39] SPEAKER_02: then it really defeats the purpose.
[18:42] SPEAKER_00: And you know what?
[18:43] SPEAKER_00: That's a great point.
[18:45] SPEAKER_00: I went to college and then I know a lot of people like
[18:48] SPEAKER_00: wouldn't the family as well as my friends as well.
[18:51] SPEAKER_00: I keep on asking around what hit me was, do you have career advisors in your college?
[18:55] SPEAKER_00: They're like, yeah, and they're paying for it.
[18:56] SPEAKER_00: It's mandatory to call them and they're paying for it.
[18:59] SPEAKER_00: 20 bucks or something, whatever it is.
[19:01] SPEAKER_00: But then when you literally go there, the people who are offering a crisis,
[19:05] SPEAKER_00: no hard feelings guys.
[19:06] SPEAKER_00: If someone's watching you right now, advisor, you guys do great.
[19:10] SPEAKER_00: Motivating students and everything.
[19:11] SPEAKER_00: But it's a college is responsibly to hire right people.
[19:15] SPEAKER_00: Like you can't just expect someone who just recently graduated and now they're coaching a job
[19:20] SPEAKER_00: sticker. How do you go out there and get a job?
[19:22] SPEAKER_00: Like what, especially when you've never been, never was hiring manager.
[19:25] SPEAKER_00: You've never written the resume.
[19:27] SPEAKER_00: You've never coached an interview.
[19:29] SPEAKER_00: You've never done anything related with the career, right?
[19:32] SPEAKER_00: And those are the advisors in model colleges right now.
[19:35] SPEAKER_00: They are coaching those recent grad.
[19:38] SPEAKER_00: And I work with those people and when they give me resume, when I tell them who meet this,
[19:43] SPEAKER_00: like, you know, the colleges.
[19:45] SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, you know what?
[19:46] SPEAKER_00: Let's do something right.
[19:48] SPEAKER_00: If you are charging those students, let's do something right.
[19:51] SPEAKER_00: Hire the right people.
[19:53] SPEAKER_00: Colleges are marketing themselves out saying that, hey, we have a career advisor,
[19:57] SPEAKER_00: a career team.
[19:58] SPEAKER_00: But like, some colleges are very bad at it.
[20:00] SPEAKER_00: And maybe some colleges really good at it.
[20:02] SPEAKER_00: But I have yet to see that.
[20:03] SPEAKER_02: Hey, very good.
[20:05] SPEAKER_02: Good, good point there.
[20:06] SPEAKER_02: So I'm going to get a little bit personal.
[20:08] SPEAKER_02: I'm going to ask you what you do to unwind, to relax.
[20:13] SPEAKER_02: You know, we've been all sort of stressed out, locked in our homes for how many weeks now.
[20:21] SPEAKER_02: So what do you do to unwind and be stressed and relaxed?
[20:27] SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I have a hot tub lucky.
[20:29] SPEAKER_00: You have a hot tub.
[20:30] SPEAKER_00: That's really hot.
[20:31] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, lucky me.
[20:32] SPEAKER_00: When we go out of house, I came with a hot tub and booth table, right?
[20:35] SPEAKER_00: So we do that.
[20:37] SPEAKER_00: I do that.
[20:38] SPEAKER_00: I'm still learning.
[20:39] SPEAKER_00: I have no choice.
[20:40] SPEAKER_00: It's just right there in my office.
[20:41] SPEAKER_00: I work from there.
[20:44] SPEAKER_00: So that's how I unwind with kids.
[20:47] SPEAKER_00: Do you find you working in a hot tub as well?
[20:50] SPEAKER_00: Hot tub?
[20:51] Speaker UNKNOWN:
[20:51] SPEAKER_00: I want to.
[20:52] SPEAKER_00: But then again, you know, at the end of the day, you know, when you're tired,
[20:56] SPEAKER_00: all of us as a family would enjoy that hot tub.
[20:59] SPEAKER_00: It's beautiful view out here.
[21:00] SPEAKER_00: I live in remote and there's a cliff and you know, it's it's an amazing view.
[21:04] SPEAKER_00: And then just by looking at it outside, it just gets me going because a lot of people are
[21:08] SPEAKER_00: not privileged like we are in Canada, right?
[21:11] SPEAKER_00: Because I've seen the world outside.
[21:14] SPEAKER_00: I've gone travel in the mountains and you know, where there are no roads and anything.
[21:19] SPEAKER_00: That's when the perspective perspective is, hey, I have a roof.
[21:23] SPEAKER_00: I have basic needs and you know, I'm extremely lucky.
[21:26] SPEAKER_00: And just thinking that gets me going every day to be honest with you.
[21:30] SPEAKER_00: And anything gets me going because we are super lucky in Canada right now.
[21:34] SPEAKER_02: We are. We have, I recently mentioned in one of my posts, we have electricity, we have water,
[21:42] SPEAKER_02: you know, we have food.
[21:43] SPEAKER_02: There's people in less fortunate countries that don't have this on any ordinary day.
[21:51] SPEAKER_02: So, you know, even though we are confined to our homes and sort of working from home and
[21:56] SPEAKER_02: functioning from home, we're pretty lucky to have all those available at our homes.
[22:01] SPEAKER_00: My God, yes. And you hit it right there.
[22:03] SPEAKER_00: I saw that post as well how you survived the last day, you know, world war, what are
[22:07] SPEAKER_00: things that you were in.
[22:09] SPEAKER_00: I saw them, it was a beautiful message.
[22:12] SPEAKER_00: And exactly people, like, you know, I want people to think that you're extremely lucky living
[22:19] SPEAKER_00: in Canada even though it's in the house.
[22:21] SPEAKER_00: There are people in the world, there's no park.
[22:23] SPEAKER_00: There are, and I've traveled like a couple of years ago once I got laid off.
[22:28] SPEAKER_00: There was no road. I traveled 10 hours like uphill.
[22:30] SPEAKER_00: I went in, there's a school, one school, government school.
[22:33] SPEAKER_00: People live in hostel there and I have sponsored a couple of kids in there.
[22:37] SPEAKER_00: So, I went to see them and that was the life-turning event for me.
[22:42] SPEAKER_00: There's no gadget, there's no internet, there's no TV, nothing like that.
[22:45] SPEAKER_00: Yet, they seem to be so happy enjoying the natural beauty.
[22:48] SPEAKER_00: And that's when I changed my perspective on, oh my God, aren't you so lucky.
[22:53] SPEAKER_00: So, when I show my kids, my kids understand that too.
[22:58] SPEAKER_00: And honestly, guys, if you're living in your home right now,
[23:01] SPEAKER_00: but not outside and homeless, you're so lucky right now.
[23:05] SPEAKER_02: I agree.
[23:06] SPEAKER_02: So, some of the lessons from being an entrepreneur, for other entrepreneurs,
[23:12] SPEAKER_02: what do you know now that you wish you knew when you were just starting your business?
[23:18] SPEAKER_00: You know, I feel like that's a very good point.
[23:20] SPEAKER_00: So, when I started my business, I did not think about certain things, which is content.
[23:27] SPEAKER_00: Right? SEO, search engine optimization and websites.
[23:31] SPEAKER_00: I thought that, okay, well, I'm going to hire some experts.
[23:35] SPEAKER_00: They're going to deal with it.
[23:36] SPEAKER_00: But, and once it's done, it's done.
[23:37] SPEAKER_00: No, it's ongoing.
[23:39] SPEAKER_00: It's evolving and content.
[23:41] SPEAKER_00: I write content every day.
[23:43] SPEAKER_00: But then, I wake up in the morning and start thinking about it.
[23:46] SPEAKER_00: I did not see it coming, right?
[23:48] SPEAKER_00: So, I'm committed to it.
[23:49] SPEAKER_00: I love doing it.
[23:50] SPEAKER_00: Website, I learned from scratch how to build a website.
[23:53] SPEAKER_00: I tested it out and I build my website on my own later on.
[23:58] SPEAKER_00: I hired someone to do it as well.
[23:59] SPEAKER_00: But still evolving and...
[24:01] SPEAKER_00: That's funny you say that because I did the same thing, actually.
[24:05] SPEAKER_00: Right?
[24:06] SPEAKER_00: So, I was like, it was just testing it out and figuring it out.
[24:10] SPEAKER_00: Because I just knew my son, who was 13 years old,
[24:13] SPEAKER_00: he built the website, the first website he ever built.
[24:16] SPEAKER_00: We were just practicing.
[24:17] SPEAKER_00: And then, it was a project for him.
[24:19] SPEAKER_00: And then, I asked him what I need.
[24:21] SPEAKER_00: And then, we worked it together.
[24:21] SPEAKER_00: And it was just a long, just for a project.
[24:24] SPEAKER_00: Whatever it is, right?
[24:25] SPEAKER_00: Then, I was like, people started reaching out to me
[24:27] SPEAKER_00: with a feedback.
[24:28] SPEAKER_00: I was like, I know, I know.
[24:29] SPEAKER_00: I was not into this.
[24:31] SPEAKER_00: I didn't even think the website was a big deal, right?
[24:33] SPEAKER_00: Because I was just doing a lot of the side hustle.
[24:36] SPEAKER_00: I got a lot of these from before.
[24:37] SPEAKER_00: And in the community, I never thought about what to say.
[24:40] SPEAKER_00: But then, apparently, it's a huge deal, right?
[24:42] SPEAKER_00: So, I kiss on it.
[24:43] SPEAKER_00: It's never ending when it comes to a website building
[24:46] SPEAKER_00: and content building and digital things in the world.
[24:49] SPEAKER_00: And I think I wish I had known that.
[24:51] SPEAKER_00: But hey, we're all evolving anyway, right?
[24:54] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think one thing is an entrepreneur.
[24:56] SPEAKER_02: You're sort of learning each day something new.
[24:59] SPEAKER_02: I built my own website first.
[25:03] SPEAKER_02: And it was, I thought it was a good looking website at the time.
[25:07] SPEAKER_02: But I learned along the way that, hey, there's
[25:09] SPEAKER_02: actual people that do this professionally.
[25:13] SPEAKER_02: And here's why.
[25:14] SPEAKER_02: Because as you mentioned, content and SEO optimization,
[25:16] SPEAKER_02: and all the things that I'm not a professional in,
[25:20] SPEAKER_02: you learn.
[25:21] SPEAKER_02: You learn, and it's constant learning, I think,
[25:24] SPEAKER_02: isn't it?
[25:25] Speaker UNKNOWN: It's a entrepreneur.
[25:25] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're so right.
[25:27] SPEAKER_00: And you know, I am not that kind of person who's
[25:29] SPEAKER_00: going to be just hiring and going, like, you know,
[25:31] SPEAKER_00: I do this to that.
[25:32] SPEAKER_00: Because I have to involve myself.
[25:34] SPEAKER_00: I've been always like that.
[25:35] SPEAKER_00: I need to learn.
[25:36] SPEAKER_00: And that was the hardest part.
[25:37] SPEAKER_00: Because you have a green vision to deliver
[25:39] SPEAKER_00: those kind of content and how you want it to look like.
[25:41] SPEAKER_00: And it's good that if you learn it for those entrepreneurs
[25:44] SPEAKER_00: who are thinking, no matter how much you spend, right?
[25:47] SPEAKER_00: Go ahead and spend it.
[25:48] SPEAKER_00: But I think I have an idea.
[25:50] SPEAKER_00: Learn it.
[25:51] SPEAKER_00: How do you go about, like, you know, changing, modifying,
[25:54] SPEAKER_00: if the person is not there?
[25:55] SPEAKER_00: Because in this market, you need to know everything at this,
[25:58] SPEAKER_00: the basic of it.
[25:59] SPEAKER_00: That's what I think we've got.
[26:00] SPEAKER_00: I never thought I would learn to go to the website.
[26:02] SPEAKER_00: You need to believe that, and I built one.
[26:04] SPEAKER_02: I love it.
[26:04] SPEAKER_02: So do you do a little bit of web development as well?
[26:07] Speaker UNKNOWN: Or no?
[26:08] SPEAKER_00: No, man.
[26:09] SPEAKER_00: Like, WordPress is really easy.
[26:11] SPEAKER_00: I just go and put the plugins and put the contents.
[26:13] SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, I keep changing it.
[26:15] SPEAKER_00: It's it's there.
[26:16] SPEAKER_00: The framework is there.
[26:17] SPEAKER_00: But if I really have to go coding, oh my god,
[26:21] SPEAKER_00: coding is the last one I want to patch it.
[26:23] SPEAKER_00: No, coding is not me.
[26:24] SPEAKER_00: Maybe that's the next thing to learn.
[26:27] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm going to tell my son.
[26:28] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm going to tell my son.
[26:30] SPEAKER_00: He was actually going to my coding class,
[26:32] SPEAKER_00: and it got shut down.
[26:33] SPEAKER_00: I had a high hope, but he got stuck down.
[26:36] SPEAKER_00: So I can't wait for him to go back.
[26:38] SPEAKER_02: Not enough.
[26:38] SPEAKER_02: I know.
[26:39] SPEAKER_02: OK, so what's the best piece of advice
[26:42] SPEAKER_02: that you received as an entrepreneur from somebody?
[26:46] SPEAKER_02: Was there that one person that's
[26:47] SPEAKER_02: sort of said, hey, this is, you know, you should be doing this.
[26:50] SPEAKER_02: It can be a good advice or bad advice for me.
[26:52] SPEAKER_02: It was a bad advice that I received.
[26:55] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it sort of really helped me and made me more determined
[26:59] SPEAKER_02: in terms of what I wanted to do.
[27:02] SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, yeah.
[27:03] SPEAKER_00: So I think not like I, you know, my dad actually
[27:07] SPEAKER_00: had a lot of business back home.
[27:09] SPEAKER_00: But at the same time, he used to work in bank as well.
[27:11] SPEAKER_00: But he was not a kind of guy who would do it himself.
[27:13] SPEAKER_00: He would hire someone to do it.
[27:15] SPEAKER_00: And they would be challenged like if someone leaves, right?
[27:18] SPEAKER_00: So all his business failed back home.
[27:21] SPEAKER_00: So he's the last one I would take a bad advice, right?
[27:25] SPEAKER_00: But then I think I would have to say to my parents,
[27:29] SPEAKER_00: they kept on telling me for years ago saying
[27:31] SPEAKER_00: that, you know what, why don't you start your own business?
[27:34] SPEAKER_00: But I had no idea, right?
[27:36] SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, and then I think everyone who, like, it is still
[27:38] SPEAKER_00: sometimes I get people who are like, OK, well, you're doing good.
[27:42] SPEAKER_00: I could see that in social media and everything.
[27:43] SPEAKER_00: But how much money are you bringing?
[27:44] SPEAKER_00: And I hit that question because I never was here to actually say,
[27:49] SPEAKER_00: you know what, I'm going to be million or a billion
[27:50] SPEAKER_00: per one day, right?
[27:51] SPEAKER_00: I just thought about this is my passion.
[27:54] SPEAKER_00: I want to help people out at the same time.
[27:55] SPEAKER_00: I want to pay the bills as well.
[27:57] SPEAKER_00: And then if I go away and asleep one day, then, you know, I'm
[28:01] SPEAKER_00: sleeping, then I would think about, oh, my God, I need a huge impact
[28:06] SPEAKER_00: to people's life because of me.
[28:07] SPEAKER_00: They were able to pay the bills.
[28:09] SPEAKER_00: And that was my intention.
[28:10] SPEAKER_00: It was never for money, right?
[28:12] SPEAKER_00: But again, if money comes in, why not?
[28:14] SPEAKER_00: But I hate the bad advice saying that, OK, you've got to put the package
[28:18] SPEAKER_00: high.
[28:19] SPEAKER_00: You have so much competitors.
[28:21] SPEAKER_00: You know, I hate that because if people start focusing on price,
[28:25] SPEAKER_00: you know, that's not me.
[28:26] SPEAKER_00: I start focusing on content and quality, right?
[28:28] SPEAKER_00: And the bad advice would be, why is your price a little bit like, you know,
[28:31] SPEAKER_00: on a lower level or, you know, the stuff like that, you should charge more.
[28:35] SPEAKER_00: And I hate that.
[28:36] SPEAKER_00: I consider that as a bad advice because if people are here for money,
[28:41] SPEAKER_00: solely and you're not passionate about making an impact.
[28:44] SPEAKER_00: And I don't think the business is going to last long.
[28:46] SPEAKER_00: That's truly, I think, I think people might disagree, but I believe in making an impact,
[28:51] SPEAKER_00: like, you know, relationship first, then money comes in eventually.
[28:54] SPEAKER_00: It's coming without me doing anything.
[28:56] SPEAKER_00: So I'm blessed and lucky.
[28:58] SPEAKER_02: And I think you're really onto something here because you see entrepreneurs
[29:02] SPEAKER_02: who don't form relationships.
[29:05] SPEAKER_02: And it's short-lived.
[29:08] SPEAKER_02: And I see entrepreneurs that form relationships with their clients,
[29:12] SPEAKER_02: with their audience, with their network.
[29:14] SPEAKER_02: And it's ongoing.
[29:16] SPEAKER_02: Has there is a relationship?
[29:18] SPEAKER_02: It's not just for money.
[29:20] SPEAKER_02: So it depends on an entrepreneur, I think, which path they're going to choose.
[29:24] SPEAKER_02: But there's two types of entrepreneurs from what I've seen.
[29:27] SPEAKER_00: Oh, God.
[29:28] SPEAKER_00: Yes, I know that in corporate world, I work with a lot of consultants.
[29:31] SPEAKER_00: You know, there are some consultants.
[29:33] SPEAKER_00: They're really, you would know right away.
[29:35] SPEAKER_00: And consultants had a bad name in corporate world.
[29:38] SPEAKER_00: And if you know, it's always like, you know, cut pride.
[29:41] SPEAKER_00: This is it.
[29:42] SPEAKER_00: And I'm going to charge you for one more minute, right?
[29:44] SPEAKER_00: And I don't work like that.
[29:45] SPEAKER_00: You know, so as long as I'm needed, I'm always there.
[29:48] SPEAKER_00: I don't penny pinch.
[29:49] SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, and people would tell me, like,
[29:52] SPEAKER_00: no, sweat, I used to be.
[29:53] SPEAKER_00: You guys stop giving back now.
[29:54] SPEAKER_00: You're not doing the nonprofit world.
[29:56] SPEAKER_00: You know, I love it.
[29:57] SPEAKER_00: I love it.
[29:58] SPEAKER_00: And sometimes I get, like, you know, abused as well, to be honest.
[30:01] SPEAKER_00: I'm working on it.
[30:02] SPEAKER_00: It's okay.
[30:03] SPEAKER_00: So it's evolving process to go and give back up.
[30:08] SPEAKER_02: Very good.
[30:09] SPEAKER_02: So I'm going to ask you five questions.
[30:12] SPEAKER_02: And they're just rapid fire questions.
[30:14] SPEAKER_02: You don't have to think about them a lot.
[30:17] SPEAKER_02: Whatever, you know, first, first thing that comes to your mind.
[30:20] SPEAKER_02: So if you weren't doing what you do for work now,
[30:24] SPEAKER_02: what would you be doing?
[30:26] SPEAKER_00: If I had like billion dollars in my account, honestly,
[30:28] SPEAKER_00: I'd be traveling and doing a charity work.
[30:31] SPEAKER_00: And then going to Africa and leaving somewhere,
[30:33] SPEAKER_00: like that's what I do.
[30:35] Speaker UNKNOWN:
[30:36] SPEAKER_00: That's a great answer.
[30:37] SPEAKER_02: I can join you.
[30:39] SPEAKER_00: Oh my God.
[30:40] SPEAKER_00: I love it.
[30:41] SPEAKER_00: I did backpacking last couple of years back.
[30:43] SPEAKER_00: And I met someone, my soul, like, you know, lady,
[30:46] SPEAKER_00: the charity lady and me.
[30:48] SPEAKER_00: Like she was doing a yoga yoga system.
[30:50] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, soul sister.
[30:51] SPEAKER_00: And then we're like every year that's it.
[30:53] SPEAKER_00: We're going to go and then do this.
[30:54] SPEAKER_00: And it's amazing feeling.
[30:55] SPEAKER_00: And we should all do it backpack.
[30:57] SPEAKER_00: And forget about all inclusive five star hotel.
[31:00] SPEAKER_00: I've done that too.
[31:01] SPEAKER_00: But then the basic like backpacking and going there.
[31:05] SPEAKER_00: And you know, just sleeping in the sleeping bag without that.
[31:08] SPEAKER_00: Oh my God.
[31:09] SPEAKER_00: It's amazing feeling.
[31:10] SPEAKER_00: You would not be the same person.
[31:12] SPEAKER_00: I want everyone to do this.
[31:14] SPEAKER_02: Wonderful.
[31:15] SPEAKER_02: What is there a book that you're currently reading
[31:18] SPEAKER_02: or that you would recommend if there's not a book
[31:22] SPEAKER_02: if you're more listening to podcasts or, you know,
[31:25] SPEAKER_02: doing other things.
[31:26] SPEAKER_02: Is there something that you could recommend to our audience?
[31:30] SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
[31:31] SPEAKER_00: So I mean, I used to read books before.
[31:34] SPEAKER_00: But now I honestly don't have time to read the book at all.
[31:37] SPEAKER_00: But I think I read one book, which is as good as it gets
[31:41] SPEAKER_00: by Marshall Smith, I think.
[31:43] SPEAKER_00: And it just stands out to me every time someone talks about
[31:47] SPEAKER_00: any book.
[31:47] SPEAKER_00: It just stands out to me.
[31:49] SPEAKER_00: It talks about a lot of leadership.
[31:50] SPEAKER_00: And I didn't, as a matter of fact, last summer,
[31:52] SPEAKER_00: I gave it to my son, we'd each have chapter.
[31:54] SPEAKER_00: And I gave him a sign and he loved it too.
[31:56] SPEAKER_00: Like 12, 12, 12, 12.
[31:58] SPEAKER_00: That's great.
[31:59] SPEAKER_00: Okay.
[32:00] SPEAKER_02: And are you a morning or a night person?
[32:04] SPEAKER_02: You know what, I'm not both.
[32:06] SPEAKER_00: You're both.
[32:07] SPEAKER_00: You're both.
[32:08] SPEAKER_00: I would probably say night person.
[32:10] SPEAKER_00: I could probably watch movie until midnight.
[32:12] SPEAKER_00: I think then I'm passed, like in the past, out.
[32:14] SPEAKER_00: I pretty much wake up early in the morning.
[32:16] SPEAKER_00: The reason being is I have a schedule.
[32:18] SPEAKER_00: I have to put the content together and I have a schedule.
[32:20] SPEAKER_00: I start waking up at five and start strategizing everything.
[32:24] SPEAKER_02: But I think we're more of a morning person.
[32:27] SPEAKER_02: So do you do majority?
[32:30] SPEAKER_02: Have you ever worked in the morning?
[32:32] SPEAKER_00: Morning, I think.
[32:33] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, morning.
[32:34] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you're probably morning person and a night
[32:36] SPEAKER_02: to relax by watching Netflix or a show.
[32:40] SPEAKER_00: Good to know that.
[32:41] SPEAKER_00: Well, thanks.
[32:41] SPEAKER_00: Cause I never asked.
[32:42] Speaker UNKNOWN: And that's me.
[32:43] SPEAKER_00: Come on.
[32:44] SPEAKER_02: I'm coming cast and I'll tell you.
[32:45] SPEAKER_02: I'm so glad to know that.
[32:48] SPEAKER_02: So if you had to pick one word to describe yourself,
[32:52] SPEAKER_02: what would it be and why?
[32:55] SPEAKER_00: I just, I'm loyal, I think.
[32:56] SPEAKER_00: When I go and help someone, I am a loyal friend.
[33:01] SPEAKER_00: Example would be if I'm loyal towards our friendship,
[33:05] SPEAKER_00: or whatever it is, or whatever it is, or whatever it is,
[33:08] SPEAKER_00: I will do anything to make sure that they actually get
[33:13] SPEAKER_00: what they want.
[33:14] SPEAKER_00: And I think that's how I transfer my skills
[33:18] SPEAKER_00: to the business world as well.
[33:21] SPEAKER_00: And once I get kind, they're in with me all the time.
[33:25] SPEAKER_00: Like I'm kind of like their mentor.
[33:26] SPEAKER_00: I'm on their face.
[33:28] SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I'm pushy.
[33:29] SPEAKER_00: I was sitting in a mess and saying, what's the object?
[33:31] SPEAKER_00: Even though I don't have to, I do it, right?
[33:33] SPEAKER_00: And I think it's out of caring.
[33:36] SPEAKER_00: And I think sometimes I get kind of like the push
[33:41] SPEAKER_00: about like maybe I should be doing this.
[33:43] SPEAKER_00: They're your clients.
[33:44] SPEAKER_00: Once they're done, they're done with you.
[33:45] SPEAKER_00: But that part, I think I need to work on that
[33:49] SPEAKER_00: or maybe not, I don't know.
[33:51] SPEAKER_02: I'll see.
[33:52] SPEAKER_02: Well, that's probably what makes you successful.
[33:54] SPEAKER_02: And it goes back to those, building those long-term
[33:57] SPEAKER_02: relationships we talked about earlier.
[34:00] SPEAKER_00: Potentially, there is a pros and cons trust me
[34:02] SPEAKER_00: when someone doesn't apply to your touch
[34:03] SPEAKER_00: or something saying, hey, what happened to that new TV
[34:05] SPEAKER_00: we talked about when someone doesn't apply,
[34:07] SPEAKER_00: it's like, okay, what's going on here?
[34:09] SPEAKER_00: It's just, I take it to heart, but they do eventually,
[34:12] SPEAKER_00: but then I'm like, okay, I need to know more
[34:14] SPEAKER_00: than you kind of think.
[34:15] SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
[34:16] SPEAKER_00: It's not okay.
[34:17] SPEAKER_02: I need to be updated.
[34:19] SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
[34:20] SPEAKER_02: So what is keeping you up at night these days?
[34:23] SPEAKER_02: I mean, with everything that's going on,
[34:24] SPEAKER_02: what is it not keeping us up at night?
[34:26] SPEAKER_02: But do you have a particular thing
[34:28] SPEAKER_02: that's keeping you up at night these days?
[34:30] SPEAKER_00: The only thing that gives me up,
[34:32] SPEAKER_00: this layoffs are happening.
[34:35] SPEAKER_00: And I feel like, I feel like I can't do anything about it,
[34:38] SPEAKER_00: right?
[34:39] SPEAKER_00: The only thing I can do is offer my advice
[34:43] SPEAKER_00: based on my experience.
[34:44] SPEAKER_00: But I have had a couple of clients reach out to me
[34:47] SPEAKER_00: who got higher than they got laid off as well.
[34:49] SPEAKER_00: And that hurts me.
[34:51] SPEAKER_00: You just put the strategies together
[34:53] SPEAKER_00: and you do so much of hard work.
[34:55] SPEAKER_00: And then I wake up and think,
[34:58] SPEAKER_00: what about those kind of work through?
[35:00] SPEAKER_00: We put a lot of work together.
[35:01] SPEAKER_00: And now, what if they don't have a job?
[35:04] SPEAKER_00: Do they believe in career coaching, right?
[35:06] SPEAKER_00: Like, they come back to me at the same time.
[35:08] SPEAKER_00: I feel really sad about it.
[35:10] SPEAKER_00: It's more towards those people I've worked together
[35:13] SPEAKER_00: and I set them up for success.
[35:16] SPEAKER_00: And when they come back to me thinking,
[35:18] SPEAKER_00: that's what happened, why me?
[35:20] SPEAKER_00: And then I can relate to be honest
[35:22] SPEAKER_00: because I was laid off and I had to coach them.
[35:25] SPEAKER_00: I am not a career counselor,
[35:28] SPEAKER_00: but sometimes it's so hard for me not to be one.
[35:31] SPEAKER_00: And you've got to be licensed for counseling services,
[35:34] SPEAKER_00: which I don't have it.
[35:36] SPEAKER_00: And sometimes I've got to be putting thin line.
[35:39] SPEAKER_00: So I don't cross that line.
[35:42] SPEAKER_00: If people will tell me, I'm depressed,
[35:44] SPEAKER_00: I'm like this and this, like I can't help it.
[35:45] SPEAKER_00: And I wish I could then I have to be for them
[35:47] SPEAKER_00: to someone else, right?
[35:49] SPEAKER_00: So that's the challenges it's been
[35:50] SPEAKER_00: that I can only do so much.
[35:52] SPEAKER_00: My hands are tight.
[35:53] SPEAKER_02: Especially at times like this.
[35:55] SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think a lot of people are feeling hopeless.
[35:59] SPEAKER_02: And especially if, as you said,
[36:01] SPEAKER_02: they worked so hard to get the job.
[36:04] SPEAKER_02: And then because of everything that's had happened,
[36:07] SPEAKER_02: they lost the job.
[36:09] SPEAKER_02: So it definitely meant the help is something of an issue
[36:14] SPEAKER_02: for everyone.
[36:16] SPEAKER_02: Regardless of if you have a job or not,
[36:19] SPEAKER_02: but even harder for those people
[36:22] SPEAKER_02: who might have lost their jobs.
[36:24] SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
[36:25] SPEAKER_00: And that's where career coaching has to be stopped
[36:28] SPEAKER_00: and they need help more than career coaching, right?
[36:32] SPEAKER_00: And that's what keeps me all like, I can't help.
[36:36] SPEAKER_00: I can't help.
[36:38] SPEAKER_02: What's your favorite place in the world?
[36:40] SPEAKER_02: I know you medicine, you back back,
[36:42] SPEAKER_02: you traveled a lot.
[36:44] SPEAKER_02: Was there one place that sort of touched you
[36:47] SPEAKER_02: and stayed with you as your favorite place?
[36:50] SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
[36:51] SPEAKER_00: So when I was laid off, as I said,
[36:53] SPEAKER_00: I went back home.
[36:54] SPEAKER_00: That's where I'm from Nepal.
[36:56] SPEAKER_00: So we used to sponsor kids every year.
[36:59] SPEAKER_00: And I had like, you know, more than five or six
[37:01] SPEAKER_00: whatever it is every year.
[37:02] SPEAKER_00: So I built that up.
[37:03] SPEAKER_00: And then I wanted to go there.
[37:05] SPEAKER_00: And we did a lot of fundraising and everything,
[37:07] SPEAKER_00: send them money, like, you know, within the community
[37:09] SPEAKER_00: and stuff like that.
[37:10] SPEAKER_00: And I got really passionate about that place.
[37:12] SPEAKER_00: I've never seen it.
[37:13] SPEAKER_00: So I wanted to go and see.
[37:15] SPEAKER_00: It was kind of like soul searching.
[37:16] SPEAKER_00: I don't know what was I thinking.
[37:18] SPEAKER_00: The person who never stepped up to gym actually
[37:21] SPEAKER_00: went there up hill, that of like, 8 to 10 hours.
[37:24] SPEAKER_00: I was completely sore when I went up in a mountain
[37:27] SPEAKER_00: at an amazing place, amazing place, amazing people,
[37:32] SPEAKER_00: super happy people.
[37:33] SPEAKER_00: And I've committed myself.
[37:35] SPEAKER_00: I said, I'm going to bring my kids
[37:37] SPEAKER_00: when the roads are going to be there
[37:38] SPEAKER_00: and they're going to see this place.
[37:40] SPEAKER_00: And I am looking forward to go back there again
[37:42] SPEAKER_00: once the roads are built.
[37:43] SPEAKER_00: And I've told my kids I'm going to take them.
[37:46] SPEAKER_00: They need to see that place.
[37:47] SPEAKER_00: And I think before I die, I need to go back.
[37:50] SPEAKER_00: I get emotional about this place.
[37:51] SPEAKER_02: So beautiful, beautiful.
[37:53] SPEAKER_02: And last question is, there's a small tropical island
[37:57] SPEAKER_02: in the middle of the ocean with only one pung boot
[38:01] SPEAKER_02: and no internet.
[38:02] SPEAKER_02: We drop you off there with no technology at all.
[38:06] SPEAKER_02: At any time you can use a pung boot on the island
[38:08] SPEAKER_02: to call the boat to come pick you up.
[38:10] SPEAKER_02: How long do you think you would last
[38:12] SPEAKER_02: before making the phone call?
[38:14] SPEAKER_02: And what would you do in the meantime?
[38:17] SPEAKER_02: Oh my goodness.
[38:18] SPEAKER_00: Oh no, that's a tough one.
[38:20] SPEAKER_00: Oh god.
[38:22] SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm not an explorer at all.
[38:24] SPEAKER_00: I hate hiking.
[38:25] SPEAKER_00: So I don't see myself doing it.
[38:28] SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, you do probably, I would probably enjoy for a bit,
[38:32] SPEAKER_00: like, you know, probably for an hour just to look at like,
[38:35] SPEAKER_00: you stop around.
[38:36] SPEAKER_00: And then phone call's going to happen, right?
[38:38] SPEAKER_00: It's not long at all, sweetheart.
[38:41] SPEAKER_00: No, I am like, I'm a chicken when it comes to being alone.
[38:45] SPEAKER_00: And I let's put it that way.
[38:46] SPEAKER_00: I cannot even be alone at home by myself.
[38:49] SPEAKER_00: I freak out whenever my kids are going away and swimming.
[38:51] SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, when are you coming home?
[38:53] SPEAKER_00: Why are you late?
[38:53] SPEAKER_00: And I'm really like that.
[38:54] SPEAKER_00: So I can't see myself even lasting for an hour to be honest.
[38:58] SPEAKER_02: So fair enough.
[38:59] SPEAKER_02: So what would you do for an hour just explore around?
[39:02] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just do, like, get by, like, you know, just to explore
[39:04] SPEAKER_00: and see, okay, I've done this.
[39:06] SPEAKER_00: You know, okay, I don't need to come back here.
[39:08] SPEAKER_00: Just to see what's out there.
[39:09] SPEAKER_00: That's it.
[39:10] SPEAKER_02: And plan the escape possibly.
[39:12] SPEAKER_00: Oh hell, yes.
[39:14] SPEAKER_00: And there's someone though.
[39:16] SPEAKER_00: I need someone, like, some partner, my friend.
[39:19] SPEAKER_00: Actually, you like it.
[39:19] SPEAKER_00: I probably need one of the girlfriend.
[39:21] SPEAKER_00: Cause I feel like, you know,
[39:22] SPEAKER_00: probably with the girlfriend's are amazing.
[39:24] SPEAKER_00: I've done that.
[39:25] SPEAKER_00: It's like, you know, when you have a soul sister,
[39:28] SPEAKER_00: you don't need to be bored.
[39:30] SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, you can do whatever you want to.
[39:32] SPEAKER_00: So we're going to our listeners find you.
[39:36] SPEAKER_00: They can find me at LinkedIn.
[39:38] SPEAKER_00: And they can just send me a DM.
[39:41] SPEAKER_00: I'm heavily engaged in LinkedIn.
[39:43] SPEAKER_00: And if they need to know more about me,
[39:46] SPEAKER_00: about me sections on teachinjo.com page.
[39:49] SPEAKER_00: That's wonderful.
[39:50] SPEAKER_02: Thank you so much again for your time, so I bet it's been
[39:54] SPEAKER_02: a real pleasure.
[39:55] SPEAKER_02: Thank you so much for inviting me, Andrea.
