1st Step in Your Business Acceleration Journey: Uncover & Define Your Purpose

Episode
Karin Forrest gets vulnerable on this podcast working ‘live’ with Host Angela Faye on the first steps to Uncover...
Key takeaways
- When starting a business, focus on one specific target audience first rather than trying to serve everyone at once, even if your larger vision is global.
- Your massively transformative purpose should inspire you personally and guide your big-picture vision, while your market dominating position defines who you actually transact with and serve.
- A compelling business offer must address a specific problem your ideal client desperately wants to solve, not just a general need they might have.
- Building a purpose-driven business means aligning your personal values and lived experiences with the impact you want to create, which generates sustainable fulfillment beyond just financial success.
- Start experimenting with small pilot programs to test your ideas, gather feedback, and refine your approach before scaling, rather than waiting for everything to be perfect.

============================================================ TRANSCRIPTION WITH SPEAKERS ============================================================ [00:00] SPEAKER_02: Welcome to Canada's podcast. [00:05] SPEAKER_02: This is Angela Faye. [00:07] SPEAKER_02: I'm with Karen Forrest today who has big dreams [00:10] SPEAKER_02: and I'm very excited to support her. [00:13] SPEAKER_02: Karen submitted a question on my business coaching platform [00:18] SPEAKER_02: and I asked if she was willing to jump on a podcast [00:22] SPEAKER_02: because her question is what so many other startups [00:26] SPEAKER_02: and people in growth phase ask all the time. [00:29] SPEAKER_02: Instead of just helping Karen, [00:31] SPEAKER_02: why do we help a much bigger audience [00:33] SPEAKER_02: by actually delving in and the same compelling questions [00:36] SPEAKER_02: that Karen has, I'm sure you might have too. [00:39] SPEAKER_02: Karen would like to streamline her startup approach [00:42] SPEAKER_02: by limiting the number of people that she attempts [00:45] SPEAKER_02: to reach at the outset in order to be effective. [00:48] SPEAKER_02: She has a goal of offering programs to schools, [00:52] SPEAKER_02: youth at risk, community centers, [00:56] SPEAKER_02: treatment and trauma centers, [00:59] SPEAKER_02: local businesses, veteran affairs and senior centers. [01:02] SPEAKER_02: Now you don't as listeners have all of those goals, [01:05] SPEAKER_02: but here's the question, [01:06] SPEAKER_02: can you provide some guidance on what would be an effective approach [01:10] SPEAKER_02: to have a clear direction on first steps? [01:15] SPEAKER_02: That is where we're jumping into today. [01:18] SPEAKER_02: So Karen, can you just introduce yourself. [01:20] SPEAKER_02: Tell us a little bit about what you're up to [01:22] SPEAKER_02: because that's, I know who I get a sense of who you wanna serve [01:25] SPEAKER_02: but what's your business? [01:27] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, thanks. [01:29] SPEAKER_00: And I actually like how clear you to find all that. [01:32] SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, yep, that's what I'm trying to get across. [01:34] SPEAKER_00: I've been inspired to create a business [01:37] SPEAKER_00: that will serve the needs of my community [01:40] SPEAKER_00: in sort of in, let's see, in all areas. [01:44] SPEAKER_00: So I realized that as humans, we all have struggles [01:47] SPEAKER_00: and it doesn't matter whether we're in the business environment [01:51] SPEAKER_00: in the home environment, [01:53] SPEAKER_00: we all have past issues that they take over. [01:56] SPEAKER_00: I'm designing a program that is meant to enhance [02:00] SPEAKER_00: or support other traditional methods [02:03] SPEAKER_00: that people may be engaged in as far as healing from, [02:06] SPEAKER_00: from trauma, things like that. [02:08] SPEAKER_00: I also have a lens towards the business community [02:11] SPEAKER_00: because there's been a lot of change in mindset [02:14] SPEAKER_00: about how one creates a healthy business community, [02:17] SPEAKER_00: what it means to be part of an organization [02:19] SPEAKER_00: and business people are finding that [02:21] SPEAKER_00: a healthy, happy, fulfilled employees produce. [02:28] SPEAKER_00: So it's a win and it's really actually exciting [02:30] SPEAKER_00: and more research I do into this to see that [02:32] SPEAKER_00: the business community is ready for what I have to offer. [02:35] SPEAKER_00: So my business is called the Chi-Op connection. [02:38] SPEAKER_00: My tagline is empowering connections [02:41] SPEAKER_00: for transformational change. [02:43] SPEAKER_00: I created that to be able to encapsulate all facets [02:48] SPEAKER_00: because through so far I've decided [02:50] SPEAKER_00: that I will have a for-profit business model [02:53] SPEAKER_00: a limited company which allows me to step forward [02:56] SPEAKER_00: in offering programs. [02:58] SPEAKER_00: And then once I get some established flow, [03:03] SPEAKER_00: I can offer a charity branch within my organization [03:06] SPEAKER_00: and really start reaching out to the deeper needs [03:09] SPEAKER_00: because those relationships will take more time to build [03:13] SPEAKER_00: and there's a lot more framework required, [03:16] SPEAKER_00: especially when it comes to working with youth at risk. [03:19] SPEAKER_00: My heart's there but just to think I'm going to launch [03:22] SPEAKER_00: straight into that, there's an awful lot of requirements [03:25] SPEAKER_00: that need to be met just for safety. [03:27] SPEAKER_02: And in the context of your business journey, [03:31] SPEAKER_02: this is not your first rodeo, right? [03:33] SPEAKER_02: You have right, only businesses before. [03:35] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've owned traditional businesses before [03:37] SPEAKER_00: so I had a landscaping business [03:39] SPEAKER_00: and I also had a construction business. [03:41] SPEAKER_00: So I'm well versed in business models [03:43] SPEAKER_00: and I know, you know, incoming and outgoing [03:46] SPEAKER_00: and how it all looks at the end of the day. [03:48] SPEAKER_00: But both my businesses were actually passions [03:51] SPEAKER_00: of other people I had partners for both those businesses. [03:55] SPEAKER_00: So this is a switch because I've taken time to reflect [03:59] SPEAKER_00: like this business is a reflection of my true values. [04:02] SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, the nice part about that is it's not work [04:06] SPEAKER_00: and it's never gonna be work. [04:08] SPEAKER_00: Anytime that I'm investing time in this creation [04:11] SPEAKER_00: is of so much value to me on a personal level [04:14] SPEAKER_00: that that's something I'd like to share with people as well. [04:17] SPEAKER_00: I believe that you can live a purpose driven life [04:20] SPEAKER_00: and be successful at it as well. [04:23] SPEAKER_00: I mean, and for me, my version of success is, you know, [04:26] SPEAKER_00: like if it's financial success, I can bless people [04:28] SPEAKER_00: with that. [04:29] SPEAKER_00: It's just about the flow. [04:31] SPEAKER_00: So it feels good on all levels. [04:33] SPEAKER_02: So I just want to reiterate that it's so important [04:37] SPEAKER_02: because this is really what we're uncovering today [04:40] SPEAKER_02: is why purpose can actually drive [04:44] SPEAKER_02: or should be the first and foundational dig deep on [04:49] SPEAKER_02: where you start your business. [04:51] SPEAKER_02: And I'm not talking just startups. [04:54] SPEAKER_02: I'm also talking as you're looking to scale [04:57] SPEAKER_02: or grow your business. [04:59] SPEAKER_02: Correct. [04:59] SPEAKER_02: You could be successful up until now, [05:02] SPEAKER_02: but the scale side starts really uncovering [05:06] SPEAKER_02: and defining your purpose. [05:08] SPEAKER_02: And I'd love about what you said, Karen, [05:10] SPEAKER_02: is that as you work on a purpose driven business, [05:14] SPEAKER_02: the personal fulfillment is completely enriching [05:20] SPEAKER_02: the service to others and the profits [05:24] SPEAKER_02: and the social impact come, but they will happen. [05:27] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, you get up clear. [05:29] SPEAKER_00: So there's no shame in actually making money doing what you love. [05:33] SPEAKER_00: That's been a mental, that's been a mental block [05:35] SPEAKER_00: for me for quite some time. [05:36] SPEAKER_00: So it's an important one to push through [05:38] SPEAKER_00: because we're supposed to live in abundance. [05:41] SPEAKER_02: So, you know, and I want to just iterate [05:44] SPEAKER_02: that sort of this podcast is leading to, [05:47] SPEAKER_02: we do have a master class that anybody's welcome to do. [05:50] SPEAKER_02: It's six ways to lead, live your best life [05:53] SPEAKER_02: and better the world. [05:54] SPEAKER_02: And the first step is uncovering and defining your purpose. [05:58] SPEAKER_02: We're going to talk about the thinking big, [06:01] SPEAKER_02: which is what I love that you've done [06:04] SPEAKER_02: looking at the grand challenges. [06:07] SPEAKER_02: And step three is imagining and building [06:10] SPEAKER_02: your next self-awareness story. [06:13] SPEAKER_02: And that's a really key part. [06:15] SPEAKER_02: Karen, before we go back and do a little bit of strategy work [06:19] SPEAKER_02: or uncutting your purpose, [06:21] SPEAKER_02: are you happy to share? [06:23] SPEAKER_02: It's a wonderful moment. [06:24] SPEAKER_02: I know what are you happy to share [06:25] SPEAKER_02: a little bit of your what got you here [06:28] SPEAKER_02: and why this is so important to you. [06:30] SPEAKER_00: Well, 100% actually. [06:31] SPEAKER_00: So, and I've had this comment lately, [06:33] SPEAKER_00: I've actually met people that are really seeing my vision. [06:36] SPEAKER_00: It's because I open with just my heart there [06:39] SPEAKER_00: and I don't worry about being vulnerable. [06:42] SPEAKER_00: So, I come from a place where I had a lot of trauma [06:45] SPEAKER_00: in my upbringing, I used substances [06:49] SPEAKER_00: and other behaviors to cope with those challenges. [06:53] SPEAKER_00: And I've spent the last 20 years of my life [06:55] SPEAKER_00: working through traditional methods of healing. [06:58] SPEAKER_00: So, a lot of the therapies, I've, I know about them, [07:02] SPEAKER_00: I know about the science behind them [07:03] SPEAKER_00: and have also been a student of them. [07:05] SPEAKER_00: So, I really know what I'm talking about. [07:08] SPEAKER_00: And it brought me to this point [07:10] SPEAKER_00: where I'm being shown the value of like especially [07:13] SPEAKER_00: being out on the water and that connection with nature [07:17] SPEAKER_00: and I got to experience that over the summer myself [07:20] SPEAKER_00: just being in that place where I feel connected again. [07:24] SPEAKER_00: All the old stories fall away. [07:27] SPEAKER_00: I have this open perspective on life. [07:32] SPEAKER_00: And from that place is where I'm able to move into now [07:35] SPEAKER_00: what I'm, what I feel is my purpose-driven reason. [07:38] SPEAKER_00: It all comes from that process that, [07:40] SPEAKER_00: and that's the process that I want to share with people [07:42] SPEAKER_00: because I believe in it because I'm experiencing it myself. [07:47] SPEAKER_00: And it's the healing that's come from this is truly phenomenal. [07:53] SPEAKER_00: And then as I go above my day in this new way, [07:57] SPEAKER_00: all these amazing people start surrounding me [08:00] SPEAKER_00: that wouldn't have if I was still living in the old tape. [08:03] SPEAKER_00: So it just, it builds and feeds upon itself. [08:05] SPEAKER_00: So I think the entrance piece that I can offer [08:09] SPEAKER_00: is truly transformational. [08:12] SPEAKER_00: And then it just takes itself from there. [08:15] SPEAKER_00: So, okay. [08:16] SPEAKER_02: So we're going to get to what is your compelling offer? [08:20] SPEAKER_02: Whether we have time in this session, [08:22] SPEAKER_02: if not, we will definitely follow up [08:24] SPEAKER_02: because it's an exciting and offer. [08:26] SPEAKER_02: It's a unique setting, doing transformational programs. [08:30] SPEAKER_02: With kayaking as the method or the tool in beautiful, [08:35] SPEAKER_02: now to start to launch on Vancouver Island, [08:39] SPEAKER_02: British Columbia, Canada. [08:40] SPEAKER_02: But let's go back a little bit and let's deepen. [08:43] SPEAKER_02: So you shared with me your vision and mission statement. [08:48] SPEAKER_02: Before, before we get to those, [08:51] SPEAKER_02: and what is a purpose? [08:54] SPEAKER_02: We call it massively transformative purpose. [08:57] SPEAKER_02: When we're talking to small and medium businesses, [09:00] SPEAKER_02: if you're overwhelmed by the word massively transformative purpose, [09:05] SPEAKER_02: you can just call it a transformative purpose. [09:07] SPEAKER_02: But they all share these attributes. [09:09] SPEAKER_02: And I'm going to read them off in a way. [09:11] SPEAKER_02: First of all, it is uniquely yours. [09:15] SPEAKER_02: The next one is it completely inspires you. [09:19] SPEAKER_02: Karen, you tapped into that when you said, [09:21] SPEAKER_02: you wake up fulfilled and eager [09:23] SPEAKER_02: to work on this in the service. [09:27] SPEAKER_02: The third attribute, it is neither too narrow [09:31] SPEAKER_02: or technology specific. [09:34] SPEAKER_02: And you've touched on this already beautifully, Karen. [09:37] SPEAKER_02: It's aimed at the heart and the mind. [09:42] SPEAKER_02: Good. [09:42] SPEAKER_02: And finally, it is something that you can declare [09:44] SPEAKER_02: with total sincerity and confidence. [09:47] SPEAKER_02: So that are the attributes under massively transformative purpose. [09:51] SPEAKER_02: It is not necessarily as easy as that to uncover. [09:55] SPEAKER_02: It can take some work, which is why we have the mastermind, [10:00] SPEAKER_02: we have the masterclass, we have tools [10:03] SPEAKER_02: that can help you uncover it for yourself, [10:05] SPEAKER_02: which I'll share with you. [10:06] SPEAKER_02: Questions I had for Karen. [10:08] SPEAKER_02: This will help us uncover a little bit more specifically [10:10] SPEAKER_02: what your MTP is. [10:13] SPEAKER_02: If someone read your purpose statement, Karen, [10:17] SPEAKER_02: would they associate it with you? [10:21] SPEAKER_02: Yes. [10:24] SPEAKER_02: And are you clear on, and you've listed off a lot of people [10:30] SPEAKER_02: that you could be a value to? [10:34] SPEAKER_02: No. [10:34] SPEAKER_02: At racial questions, how do you get out the door? [10:37] SPEAKER_02: How do you focus? [10:38] SPEAKER_02: So who do you first want to serve? [10:42] SPEAKER_00: So I've decided just through exploration, [10:45] SPEAKER_00: actually, that I'm going to connect [10:47] SPEAKER_00: with the business community first [10:49] SPEAKER_00: because I believe it's, let's see. [10:55] SPEAKER_00: So I believe that when we look at the individual, [10:58] SPEAKER_00: there's lots like everybody that I talk to, [11:00] SPEAKER_00: it doesn't matter what little bubble I find them in. [11:04] SPEAKER_00: When I start talking to people on a heart level, [11:06] SPEAKER_00: it's amazing what people start to share. [11:09] SPEAKER_00: So I know that this human connection approach [11:12] SPEAKER_00: is to benefit the health of the community. [11:15] SPEAKER_00: So they're all in our community, you know? [11:18] SPEAKER_00: And there's people out there that need to have this [11:22] SPEAKER_00: in order to make those shifts that allows them to be [11:25] SPEAKER_00: their most comfortable best within their context [11:29] SPEAKER_00: and community. [11:30] SPEAKER_00: So as far as I see community health, [11:33] SPEAKER_00: I think that it's a really strong way forward. [11:35] SPEAKER_00: I think it's very streamlined [11:37] SPEAKER_00: because I do need simplicity and start up [11:39] SPEAKER_00: because my overarching dreams are global. [11:43] SPEAKER_00: It's very large. [11:44] SPEAKER_00: And I have learned that I can't operate from that place. [11:48] SPEAKER_00: It's not feasible. [11:51] SPEAKER_00: So it feels good. [11:52] SPEAKER_00: It's landed well. [11:53] SPEAKER_00: I feel like I have enough support to step forward [11:56] SPEAKER_00: and confidence in that direction. [11:59] SPEAKER_00: And it just allows me to move forward and begin, [12:02] SPEAKER_00: like I do want to start very small [12:04] SPEAKER_00: because I really now understand the value [12:08] SPEAKER_00: of the scaling approach. [12:10] SPEAKER_00: So it just allows me to define my program, run my program. [12:15] SPEAKER_00: I can even start calling it like a trial program [12:17] SPEAKER_00: and just offer it and do test runs and get feedback. [12:22] SPEAKER_00: And I feel confident that I'm able to make [12:24] SPEAKER_00: the connections necessary to launch that way. [12:28] SPEAKER_00: So it's just sitting well with me. [12:30] SPEAKER_02: So what you're talking about is experimentation, [12:32] SPEAKER_02: which is actually one of the attributes [12:35] SPEAKER_02: of an exponential organization that is for another podcast. [12:38] SPEAKER_02: But I want to go to you for a moment. [12:42] SPEAKER_02: The, so we're talking about business. [12:44] SPEAKER_02: Business is a very broad scope. [12:47] SPEAKER_02: So I'm going to ask you a question. [12:50] SPEAKER_02: Because we're going to, we're going to taste some time. [12:52] SPEAKER_02: We're going to refine even in the process of this podcast. [12:56] SPEAKER_02: You know, what part of the business community? [12:59] SPEAKER_02: Perfect. [13:00] SPEAKER_02: In doing so, what impact do you want to create [13:04] SPEAKER_02: for the people that you serve? [13:06] SPEAKER_02: In you kind of answered it, [13:09] SPEAKER_02: I'd be if you want to ask a little bit more. [13:12] SPEAKER_02: Very, very specific on the impact. [13:16] SPEAKER_00: So the impact that I would like to achieve [13:19] SPEAKER_00: is for people to come away after being involved [13:22] SPEAKER_00: in my program with the ability to take that pause in their day, [13:27] SPEAKER_00: find their center to ground and then to navigate challenges [13:32] SPEAKER_00: from a seeded place of wisdom, [13:36] SPEAKER_00: to come from a place of clarity, I guess, mental clarity. [13:41] SPEAKER_00: That makes that expression for what I'm trying to get [13:44] SPEAKER_00: at. [13:44] SPEAKER_02: And it's okay. [13:45] SPEAKER_02: All of these questions are leading down a path. [13:48] SPEAKER_02: So just, let's process. [13:49] SPEAKER_02: Okay. [13:50] SPEAKER_02: You're frontliners. [13:51] SPEAKER_00: Yeah. [13:51] SPEAKER_00: So I see that they can gain, yeah, mental clarity. [13:54] SPEAKER_00: So, you know, so you're not making decisions [13:55] SPEAKER_00: from some emotionally based historical view. [14:01] SPEAKER_02: Okay. [14:01] SPEAKER_02: So I love some of these words. [14:03] SPEAKER_02: This is awesome. [14:04] SPEAKER_02: We're going to be able to play this back for you. [14:05] SPEAKER_02: Let me ask as well. [14:08] SPEAKER_02: That's the problem that they're experiencing. [14:10] SPEAKER_02: Because in order to be in business, really, [14:14] SPEAKER_02: and be successful in your business foundations, [14:18] SPEAKER_02: we're going to come up with a compelling offer. [14:21] SPEAKER_02: Yes. [14:22] SPEAKER_02: And a market dominating position. [14:24] SPEAKER_02: Yes. [14:25] SPEAKER_02: Staying there. [14:26] SPEAKER_02: But they have to have a problem that they don't want. [14:31] SPEAKER_02: What is the problem that they don't want? [14:33] SPEAKER_00: Okay. [14:34] SPEAKER_00: So I would say that what I've seen in the past couple of years [14:40] SPEAKER_00: and what I'm getting feedback on is that the world has turned upside down. [14:44] SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of shift that needs to happen within business framework [14:48] SPEAKER_00: in order for businesses to. [14:50] SPEAKER_02: Karen. [14:51] SPEAKER_02: Yes. [14:51] SPEAKER_02: One sec. [14:52] SPEAKER_02: One sec. [14:53] Speaker UNKNOWN: [14:53] SPEAKER_02: Before we move on. [14:54] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [14:55] SPEAKER_02: Want you to do me a favor. [14:57] SPEAKER_02: I want you to imagine that you're talking to a person. [15:01] SPEAKER_02: Hmm. [15:02] SPEAKER_02: Person has a face. [15:04] SPEAKER_02: They have a persona. [15:05] SPEAKER_02: They are the person that is going to say, [15:08] SPEAKER_02: I need you. [15:09] SPEAKER_02: I know that. [15:10] SPEAKER_02: Here you go. [15:12] SPEAKER_02: Yes. [15:13] SPEAKER_02: So imagine that person. [15:15] SPEAKER_02: So it's talking generally. [15:16] SPEAKER_02: Just talk about that person. [15:18] SPEAKER_02: What is the problem that that person has that they don't want? [15:21] SPEAKER_00: Okay. [15:21] SPEAKER_00: So the problem that the person is having is that their organization. [15:26] SPEAKER_00: Doesn't have the capability to to be flexible enough to make large shifts in business practices. [15:34] SPEAKER_00: And in order to keep their business viable in the changing in the changing climate. [15:42] SPEAKER_00: They they need to have these that can. [15:45] SPEAKER_00: Think outside the box. [15:47] SPEAKER_00: They need to be able to shift into the solutions is what they need. [15:51] SPEAKER_00: We have to get out. [15:53] SPEAKER_00: The rigid roles and and come up with that creative flexibility that's required. [15:58] SPEAKER_02: And I'm going to suggest that. [16:01] Speaker UNKNOWN: And I'm going to suggest that. [16:02] Speaker UNKNOWN: And I'm going to suggest that. [16:02] SPEAKER_02: Chances are the organization is not agile. [16:06] SPEAKER_02: And cannot respond to changing. [16:09] SPEAKER_02: Environment. [16:10] SPEAKER_02: They might not be resilient. [16:11] SPEAKER_02: And going back to exact comment. [16:13] SPEAKER_02: You said, right. [16:15] SPEAKER_02: As there's stock. [16:16] SPEAKER_02: In. [16:17] SPEAKER_02: A current set. [16:19] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [16:19] SPEAKER_02: Right. [16:20] SPEAKER_02: What's keeping them stuck. [16:22] SPEAKER_02: Now, this is why you can serve them over. [16:25] SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's. [16:26] SPEAKER_02: You know, [16:26] SPEAKER_02: there's a lot of. [16:27] Speaker UNKNOWN: What's the real. [16:27] Speaker UNKNOWN: [16:27] SPEAKER_02: The buildings of transformational. [16:28] SPEAKER_02: Business coaches out in the world. [16:30] SPEAKER_02: Yes. [16:31] SPEAKER_02: What can you do that nobody else can do. [16:35] SPEAKER_02: That you know. [16:37] SPEAKER_02: Is an insight. [16:39] SPEAKER_02: Or a roadblock. [16:41] SPEAKER_02: That's stopping them from being agile and being able to serve their own business. [16:45] SPEAKER_02: What's the robot? [16:46] SPEAKER_00: The roadblock is that they're not. [16:48] SPEAKER_00: They're not. [16:49] SPEAKER_00: They're not connected to their place of wisdom. [16:53] SPEAKER_00: so that they can open their mind to just looking at everything with a fresh perspective. [16:59] SPEAKER_00: They're stuck in their group or in their... [17:04] SPEAKER_01: Hmm. [17:05] SPEAKER_00: Yeah. [17:06] SPEAKER_00: How do I actually get this across? [17:07] SPEAKER_00: So they need to come out with me and allow me to open the window to looking at their [17:15] SPEAKER_00: problems from a fresh perspective so they can come up with creative solutions. [17:20] SPEAKER_02: Okay. [17:21] SPEAKER_02: Okay. [17:22] SPEAKER_02: Can we be based on your story? [17:25] SPEAKER_02: And I love it tapping into their own wisdom. [17:28] SPEAKER_02: I think that will happen. [17:30] SPEAKER_02: What is there anything stopping them from tapping into their own wisdom? [17:33] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there you go. [17:35] SPEAKER_02: Okay. [17:36] SPEAKER_00: And still think that they keep control and keep trying to do what they're doing. [17:40] SPEAKER_00: Somehow it's going to make an effective shift. [17:42] SPEAKER_02: So now we're going to jump into... [17:44] SPEAKER_02: Is the person that we're talking to as an amaler or female? [17:48] SPEAKER_02: Let's see. [17:48] SPEAKER_02: I'm thinking it's more... [17:49] SPEAKER_02: I mean, it doesn't matter. [17:51] SPEAKER_02: It's still fairly male-dom. [17:52] SPEAKER_02: It could be a... [17:52] SPEAKER_02: They, they, they, they, they, they, it doesn't matter. [17:54] SPEAKER_02: It's actually... [17:55] SPEAKER_00: It's still fairly male-dominated. [17:57] SPEAKER_00: Like, I think the female business owners are going to be much more receptive to this. [18:01] SPEAKER_00: I think the male is going to take a little bit more coaching. [18:06] SPEAKER_02: Okay. [18:07] SPEAKER_02: So that female... [18:09] SPEAKER_02: I'm going to say business owner. [18:10] SPEAKER_02: So female business owners... [18:14] SPEAKER_02: What has happened to them? [18:17] SPEAKER_02: The little girl, right? [18:18] SPEAKER_02: What has happened to them in the past that they're stuck in ego? [18:21] SPEAKER_00: Well, it's fear-based, right? [18:23] SPEAKER_00: It's a safety thing. [18:24] SPEAKER_00: People like to have control of their, their environment in order to feel safe and they [18:28] SPEAKER_00: will stand in their position. [18:30] SPEAKER_00: So it's a, it's a, it's a fear-based position that most of us operate from and it's [18:35] SPEAKER_00: really difficult to think, hey, I'm going to, I'm going to stop. [18:39] SPEAKER_00: I'm going to put down all my, all my defense tools and all my strategies on life. [18:46] SPEAKER_00: And I'm going to have a look around and think, hey, is there another way of looking [18:50] SPEAKER_00: at this? [18:52] SPEAKER_00: That's very vulnerable. [18:55] SPEAKER_02: So can we go back one second? [18:58] SPEAKER_02: Because and one thing that we're in the process of doing and I'm going to write this sentence [19:02] SPEAKER_02: out in the description, but we're going to create a market-dominating position for [19:06] SPEAKER_02: you so that when you, instead of handing paper, your business card or saying, you know, [19:11] SPEAKER_02: in order to find out what I do, you have to watch this long podcast. [19:15] SPEAKER_02: In one sentence, we're going to fill in these blanks. [19:19] SPEAKER_02: It's a blank, you know, achieve blank by blank, okay? [19:28] SPEAKER_02: So this is where we're going to get to today. [19:30] SPEAKER_02: So with the moment, we're really close. [19:33] SPEAKER_02: So at the moment, we help female business owners. [19:40] SPEAKER_02: The next compelling question is, what is the solution that they want that they don't have yet? [19:47] SPEAKER_00: Yes. [19:48] SPEAKER_00: The solution they don't have is the solution they want and don't have. [19:55] SPEAKER_00: The, not creative mindset, that something like that, the, let's say, that's such a great, [20:02] SPEAKER_00: is so hard to express it. [20:04] SPEAKER_00: So you're coming from a position of, well, it's intuitive wisdom. [20:08] SPEAKER_00: I mean, it just like when you, when you get in that place and then the solution's just come. [20:18] SPEAKER_00: Because like innately, we already know, right? [20:21] SPEAKER_00: There's some innate wisdom involved in this. [20:25] SPEAKER_02: So I want to play back to you what I think I heard you say. [20:29] SPEAKER_00: Yeah. [20:30] SPEAKER_02: And I'm going to suggest that this is not necessarily the be all an end all, but this is a great starting point. [20:37] SPEAKER_02: Yes. [20:38] SPEAKER_02: Okay. [20:38] SPEAKER_02: So just for this exercise, [20:41] SPEAKER_02: if you don't mind, just close your eyes. [20:45] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [20:47] SPEAKER_02: And I'm going to be you and I'm Karen walking around, maybe a business networking group, [20:53] SPEAKER_02: or I'm talking to the people that I ideally want to serve, whether you're cold calling, [20:59] SPEAKER_02: you're walking in the door and saying, this is what I do, or what he's actually picked up the phone and said, [21:05] SPEAKER_02: Karen can help me. [21:06] SPEAKER_02: You're in one of these, right? [21:07] SPEAKER_02: So I help female business owners tap their inner wisdom by connecting them to water and nature, [21:19] SPEAKER_02: to achieve more social impact in the organization. [21:25] SPEAKER_00: Wow. [21:28] SPEAKER_00: I like it. [21:30] SPEAKER_00: Because I'll start talking about neuroplasticity. [21:34] SPEAKER_00: I should be totally honest. [21:36] SPEAKER_00: I'm a ways off of streamlining my approach, because I'm still in that. [21:41] SPEAKER_00: Right? I'm still in the creative process myself. [21:45] SPEAKER_02: So. [21:46] SPEAKER_02: So if, if I may, yes, or if you're comfortable, compare that now, [21:53] SPEAKER_02: you need to reverse engineer a little bit, your massively transformative purpose. [21:58] SPEAKER_02: Yes. [21:58] SPEAKER_02: You have the start of a market dominating position, right? [22:04] SPEAKER_02: You help people do this. [22:07] SPEAKER_02: And if you can, [22:09] SPEAKER_02: and a little bit of why now, right? [22:13] SPEAKER_02: Or why it would be imperative. [22:16] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely. [22:17] SPEAKER_02: Into that sentence. [22:19] SPEAKER_02: Yes. [22:20] SPEAKER_02: Then you will have a great mission and vision statement. [22:24] SPEAKER_02: Okay. So, so, you know, you help me get rid of it. [22:28] SPEAKER_02: And I might not have not have it nailed, but we're pretty close. [22:31] SPEAKER_00: It's fantastic. [22:32] SPEAKER_00: Yeah. [22:33] SPEAKER_00: I'm, I'm, yeah, that, that's like, thank you. [22:36] SPEAKER_02: There are problem. [22:37] SPEAKER_02: We haven't fully unleashed yet. [22:40] SPEAKER_02: It's, and I'll describe it as. [22:46] SPEAKER_02: They're probably not going to pay. [22:50] SPEAKER_02: Okay. [22:50] SPEAKER_02: Tell the problem is a problem that they need to pay for. [22:53] SPEAKER_00: Yes. [22:55] SPEAKER_02: If they're working on personal development. [22:57] SPEAKER_02: There is a, [23:01] SPEAKER_02: this is a solution. [23:02] SPEAKER_02: If they are feeling unsettled, unrest, maybe they're unhealthy. [23:08] SPEAKER_02: If they're trauma is showing up and they just wanted that's personal development. [23:13] SPEAKER_02: Yes. [23:13] SPEAKER_02: If they want to work on organizational development. [23:17] SPEAKER_02: Okay. [23:19] SPEAKER_02: You need to put in the compelling piece. [23:21] SPEAKER_02: Right. [23:21] SPEAKER_02: And then, what is happening in their. [23:24] SPEAKER_02: In their business that is. [23:27] SPEAKER_02: And so it might be in the age of disruption. [23:30] SPEAKER_02: Or it might be because their industry is, is becoming redundant or their cash. [23:37] SPEAKER_02: They haven't experienced the, the pandemic. [23:40] SPEAKER_02: Resurgence. [23:41] SPEAKER_02: And they. [23:42] SPEAKER_02: Passport whatever, whatever the compelling. [23:44] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, totally. [23:45] SPEAKER_00: Totally. [23:45] SPEAKER_00: I have a problem. [23:47] Speaker UNKNOWN: [23:48] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [23:48] SPEAKER_02: So you need to differentiate. [23:52] SPEAKER_02: Are you trying to tap into women entrepreneurs on a personal development level? [23:57] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [23:58] SPEAKER_02: Catch them in a, in a business. [23:59] SPEAKER_02: Obviously as the owner. [24:01] SPEAKER_02: The entrepreneur at the helm. [24:04] SPEAKER_02: The health and well-being of the entrepreneur at the top. [24:09] SPEAKER_02: Blueley has a trickle effect and everybody's connected. [24:12] SPEAKER_02: Everybody in the organization is going to feel it. [24:14] Speaker UNKNOWN: And then, you know, [24:14] Speaker UNKNOWN: I'm going to have to be able to. [24:15] SPEAKER_00: Yeah. [24:15] SPEAKER_00: And I guess it's such an interesting question that you pose because I am coming out of from a personal level. [24:22] SPEAKER_00: But I want to serve the business community because the health of that's so important for how the health of the whole community. [24:29] SPEAKER_00: Like if all of a sudden all our businesses shut down, [24:31] SPEAKER_00: this COVID killed them and they're all boarded up. [24:34] SPEAKER_00: That's the health of the community. [24:35] SPEAKER_00: Like it's a real. [24:37] SPEAKER_00: Followed piece, [24:37] SPEAKER_00: but it does stem from the health of the individual. [24:41] SPEAKER_00: Like, like part of the part of the idea of the program is that when you have these tools, [24:46] SPEAKER_00: you'll be so excited about it that you're not actually going to share it with other people. [24:49] SPEAKER_00: So it is a leadership development. [24:52] SPEAKER_00: Solution. [24:53] SPEAKER_00: Yes. [24:54] SPEAKER_00: It's so, it's so personally based. [24:57] SPEAKER_00: So I'm going to have to really sort that through. [25:00] SPEAKER_00: I haven't had a proper look at that. [25:02] SPEAKER_02: So you're massively transformative purpose. [25:05] Speaker UNKNOWN: So I'm going to discuss. [25:06] SPEAKER_02: Describe the attributes, which you can, you know, revisit in the recording, [25:10] SPEAKER_02: but you know, podcast that the attributes. [25:13] SPEAKER_02: That's the big picture. [25:15] SPEAKER_02: That's what people are going to buy in. [25:18] SPEAKER_02: To at a, [25:20] SPEAKER_02: at a grants, grander scale. [25:24] SPEAKER_02: These are the things that you put on your LinkedIn profile. [25:26] SPEAKER_02: These are the things that you, you say, you know, this is my aspiration. [25:31] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [25:32] SPEAKER_02: And your market dominating position. [25:37] SPEAKER_02: Your clarity statement. [25:39] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [25:40] SPEAKER_02: Okay. [25:41] SPEAKER_02: Built in with a little bit of a compelling offer. [25:44] SPEAKER_02: Right. [25:46] SPEAKER_02: Those two things together. [25:47] SPEAKER_02: So the combination of your MTP and your market dominating position. [25:52] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [25:52] SPEAKER_02: So that when you, [25:54] SPEAKER_02: so you can differentiate between the people who are transacting with. [25:58] SPEAKER_02: Absolutely. [25:58] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [25:59] SPEAKER_02: The MTP is about who you are engaging with. [26:01] SPEAKER_02: You think they can enroll the community, the crowd. [26:04] SPEAKER_02: Everybody's going to remember what Karen does because of your vision. [26:09] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [26:09] SPEAKER_02: Who you are transacting with. [26:11] SPEAKER_02: Yes. [26:12] SPEAKER_02: And exchanging money. [26:15] SPEAKER_02: And serving. [26:16] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [26:17] SPEAKER_02: Comes down to your market dominating position. [26:19] SPEAKER_02: Why. [26:19] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [26:21] Speaker UNKNOWN: [26:22] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [26:23] SPEAKER_02: Okay. [26:24] SPEAKER_02: So. [26:25] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [26:26] Speaker UNKNOWN: [26:26] SPEAKER_02: The kayak connection. [26:27] SPEAKER_02: Yes. [26:28] SPEAKER_02: Herod Forest. [26:29] SPEAKER_02: I'm super excited about keeping up and finding out more about what you do. [26:35] SPEAKER_02: And is there a way that people can connect with you now, Karen? [26:39] SPEAKER_02: Oh my goodness. [26:40] SPEAKER_00: Yes. [26:40] SPEAKER_00: Well, let's see. [26:41] SPEAKER_00: What a great question. [26:43] SPEAKER_00: You know what? [26:43] SPEAKER_00: You put me on the spot. [26:44] SPEAKER_00: And I'm not totally sure how to answer that. [26:46] SPEAKER_00: Other than I would actually just offer my personal email at this point, [26:50] SPEAKER_00: because I'm not at that stage. [26:52] SPEAKER_00: So it's Karen forest. [26:54] SPEAKER_00: Yeah. [26:54] Speaker UNKNOWN: [26:54] SPEAKER_00: All one word, K, A R, I, M, F, O, R, R, E, S, T, at gmail.com. [27:00] SPEAKER_00: And I would welcome any kind of opportunity to discuss, get feedback, find out more [27:06] SPEAKER_00: needs. [27:07] SPEAKER_00: People that are interested in in following what I'm creating here. [27:11] SPEAKER_00: Because it has. [27:12] SPEAKER_00: This is also a community effort. [27:14] SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's a lot of people getting excited about it because they want to see my vision [27:18] SPEAKER_00: and come into fruition because we all hopefully want [27:22] SPEAKER_00: to live and work in a healthy community. [27:24] SPEAKER_00: So yeah. [27:25] SPEAKER_02: So I'm going to keep you on for one more minute. [27:30] SPEAKER_02: Okay. [27:31] SPEAKER_02: Okay. [27:31] SPEAKER_02: Well, maybe five more minutes. [27:33] SPEAKER_02: Okay. [27:33] SPEAKER_02: Because I want to dig one little bit. [27:35] SPEAKER_02: Who are the people? [27:36] SPEAKER_02: Who you have connected with? [27:39] SPEAKER_02: That I've given you some early indications, [27:43] SPEAKER_02: some good support. [27:44] SPEAKER_02: Can you give me an example? [27:46] SPEAKER_00: So I've spoken with someone who's a grade nine teacher [27:51] SPEAKER_00: and he's connecting me with a program [27:54] SPEAKER_00: and it's bringing the outdoors back to youth [27:56] SPEAKER_00: because they're seeing just within the school system [27:58] SPEAKER_00: how detrimental it is that kids don't get outside [28:01] SPEAKER_00: anymore. [28:01] SPEAKER_00: They're on screens all the time. [28:03] SPEAKER_00: So there's an actual program that's been created [28:05] SPEAKER_00: in the NIMO and I'll make a connection with them. [28:08] SPEAKER_00: And you know, he's very, very excited about my program. [28:10] SPEAKER_00: So wants to again, follow along liaison where he can. [28:14] SPEAKER_00: There's another fellow that I connected with [28:16] SPEAKER_00: who does photography, but he's, [28:19] SPEAKER_00: so he's coming at natural connection [28:21] SPEAKER_00: but from a sustainability viewpoint. [28:24] SPEAKER_00: And he's also, he's written a book. [28:27] SPEAKER_00: He's involved in the school system [28:29] SPEAKER_00: and I'm going to meet with him actually today. [28:31] SPEAKER_00: And he's going to actually let me use his visuals [28:34] SPEAKER_00: for my profile marketing, all that kind of stuff [28:37] SPEAKER_00: and some spectacular, you know, it just really, really, [28:41] SPEAKER_00: and just have the, you know, the commonality of like, [28:43] SPEAKER_00: having sort of the same vision, different veins, [28:45] SPEAKER_00: but you know, it just like lives in the community. [28:47] SPEAKER_00: So the meeting people that are here, [28:50] SPEAKER_00: embedded in the areas I want to go towards, [28:53] SPEAKER_00: that are really like I want to be a part of this [28:54] SPEAKER_00: in any way that I can. [28:56] SPEAKER_00: And so it's, it's just helping me to connect. [28:59] SPEAKER_00: And there's another woman that I connected with [29:00] SPEAKER_00: and she works for one of the local treatment centers [29:03] SPEAKER_00: and they trauma unit there, specifically. [29:07] SPEAKER_00: And she's also, we've now taken to going for a walk once a week [29:10] SPEAKER_00: so that we can just share life, discuss, [29:13] SPEAKER_00: connect on a deeper level, [29:14] SPEAKER_00: but she's also going to be a contact to go forward and that. [29:17] SPEAKER_00: So just little examples of going about my day [29:20] SPEAKER_00: and talking to people. [29:21] SPEAKER_02: So I'm going to give you a clue and insight [29:24] SPEAKER_02: on how to convert those early wins, [29:30] SPEAKER_02: okay, ready? [29:34] SPEAKER_02: So the first example with a teacher that believes [29:39] SPEAKER_02: that we need another, we need a way to connect, [29:43] SPEAKER_02: get kids off their screen and connect them to nature. [29:48] SPEAKER_02: So I'm going to go back to who you want to serve. [29:50] SPEAKER_02: Do you think that there are any women entrepreneurs [29:57] SPEAKER_01: who, [30:00] SPEAKER_02: part of their roadblock is perhaps balancing work [30:05] SPEAKER_02: and family and they have a little bit of guilt [30:09] SPEAKER_02: or uncertainty of how to impart a connection [30:15] SPEAKER_02: with nature to their children. [30:17] SPEAKER_02: Do you think that there might be some women entrepreneurs? [30:23] SPEAKER_00: Oh, 100% [30:24] SPEAKER_00: I would have that problem. [30:25] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right? [30:27] SPEAKER_00: Can you be coming off her? [30:29] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, interesting. [30:30] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah. [30:32] SPEAKER_02: Can you make them an offer? [30:33] SPEAKER_00: I can. [30:35] SPEAKER_02: What would you offer them? [30:37] SPEAKER_00: I would offer them the support when they're doing [30:42] SPEAKER_00: what they need to be doing to support their family [30:44] SPEAKER_00: that I take the time to connect with their children [30:47] SPEAKER_00: and show them this life that's there. [30:51] SPEAKER_02: And what does that look like? [30:53] SPEAKER_00: Really simplified ideas to have my class force. [30:56] SPEAKER_00: I can take my van up and my kayaks and grab them off [30:59] SPEAKER_00: for school and I take them. [31:00] SPEAKER_00: I'm just going into inner safe waters. [31:03] SPEAKER_00: Very calm, Bayes and we go out for a couple of hours [31:05] SPEAKER_00: and we connect is a chance to talk about things [31:08] SPEAKER_00: that are going on. [31:09] SPEAKER_00: I show them some neat stuff. [31:11] SPEAKER_00: They go, wow, like I took my daughter and one of her friends [31:15] SPEAKER_00: and this is what I was doing with them in the summer. [31:17] SPEAKER_00: But I saw them turn back into little children [31:19] SPEAKER_00: just like I think of the starfish. [31:22] SPEAKER_00: And now they were open. [31:24] SPEAKER_00: The screens were gone. [31:25] SPEAKER_00: They were open and all of a sudden [31:26] SPEAKER_00: the connection was happening. [31:28] SPEAKER_02: Okay, and how many people can you accommodate at one time? [31:31] SPEAKER_00: Right now I take five people out. [31:34] SPEAKER_02: Okay, so maximum five. [31:37] SPEAKER_02: So anybody that wants to connect with Karen [31:41] SPEAKER_02: for a group setting of five people, [31:46] SPEAKER_02: moms and children. [31:49] SPEAKER_02: Okay, in this community on a kayaking adventure [31:53] SPEAKER_02: for a half day or full day, got Karen's email. [31:57] SPEAKER_02: Karen at gmail.com. [32:00] SPEAKER_02: Right. [32:00] SPEAKER_02: If you want private session, totally available, [32:06] SPEAKER_02: and perhaps, yeah. [32:09] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [32:11] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [32:12] SPEAKER_02: There's your first offer. [32:14] SPEAKER_02: Easy. [32:15] SPEAKER_02: How do you need to go back to what is the problem [32:19] SPEAKER_02: that they have? [32:20] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. [32:21] SPEAKER_02: Right, that they don't want. [32:22] SPEAKER_02: And what is the solution that they want, [32:25] SPEAKER_02: but they don't have? [32:26] SPEAKER_02: Right. [32:27] SPEAKER_02: I see it. [32:27] SPEAKER_02: Karen, I want to salute your bravery by the way [32:30] SPEAKER_02: or just more of a instead of a swarm fuzzy hug [32:35] SPEAKER_02: to do this strategy session live. [32:37] SPEAKER_02: It's so fun, Nange. [32:39] Speaker UNKNOWN: [32:40] SPEAKER_02: You're really good. [32:40] SPEAKER_02: The question is do you feel clearer [32:45] SPEAKER_02: in either the process of uncovering your purpose? [32:49] SPEAKER_02: Or are you do feel like, wow, like I'm energized [32:53] SPEAKER_02: and I feel clearer to my purpose? [32:55] SPEAKER_00: So can I say like a thousand percent? [32:58] SPEAKER_00: Like the clarity piece and how to define this?
