Employers are bringing more workers back to the office, while professionals continue to place a high value on workplace flexibility, whether that means greater control over where they work or when and how they work.

According to Robert Half’s analysis of third-party job posting data, fully on-site job postings rose from 63% of new listings in Q4 2025 to 84% in Q2 2026 while the share of remote and hybrid postings declined, accounting for just 3% and 13% of job postings in Q2 2026 respectively.

Yet flexibility remains a top priority for workers, including greater control over working hours. Among workers planning to look for a new role before the end of the year, 66% say flexible work schedules rank as the most important work-life benefit when evaluating a new opportunity.

Flexibility also remains a major retention factor, as 46% of workers not planning to look for a new job say their top reason for staying put is because their job offers a level of flexibility that they don’t want to lose.
